 Draft Scout Ifo Ekpre-Olomu News
02/21/15 - Five takeaways from Saturday's DL/LB NFL Combine media session: 4. Oregon CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu...Ekpre-Olomu cited his instincts and quickness as his best strengths, which fits what the tape says. The bigger question might be, is he ideally suited to stay outside or might he be better inside as a nickel cornerback in the NFL? I'm a versatile player, Ekpre-Olomu said in response to that question. I was able to play nickel throughout my career at Oregon and it is going to help me in the long run because now the league runs through the slot receiver. If you can have a guy that can cover the slot and shut him down, it helps the team. And that's all you're looking forward to, trying to win games for the team. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
02/21/15 - Five takeaways from Saturday's DL/LB NFL Combine media session: 4. Oregon CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu...With 40 straight starts under his belt, few thought Ekpre Olomu would face durability questions during the draft process, but after a knee injury during December practice, everything changed for the former Ducks' defensive back. Nonetheless, Ekpre-Olomu is staying positive after surgery eight weeks ago. I'm not really too worried how it will affect my draft stock, Ekpre-Olomu said on Saturday. I'm more worried about once I get there, how I'm going to move on from there, and how I'm going to perform once I get onto the team.

Ekpre-Olomu said he feels great and the doctors tell him the knee is healing ahead of schedule. Although the reality is, he likely won't be ready for the start of the 2015 NFL season, which will put him at a disadvantage, missing rookie mini-camps, training camp and the pre-season. So how does he plan to compensate while on the sidelines? I'm going to have to be determined to learn the playbook and make sure all those mental reps those guys are getting on the field, I have to make sure I'm getting a double amount because I'm not going to actually be on the field. You just have to work as hard as you can every day. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

02/17/15 - 2015 DRAFT SCOUT PRE-COMBINE TOP 64 DRAFT PROSPECTS: 40/5. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon, 5-09, 195, 4.46, 1-2...After showing first-round talent since his freshman season, Ekpre-Olumu's projections as a pro prospect were thrown into turmoil in December when he tragically blew out his knee (torn ACL) in practice. This soon after surgery it is probably too early for doctors to determine if, how and when he will return to action so it is difficult to predict how high or low he might be drafted. Recent history says standout players with such an injury can fall to the third or fourth round. Just before the injury, Ekpre-Olumu was considered one of the top cornerbacks in the country and was a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy and the Jim Thorpe and Bednarik awards. He was second on the team in pass breakups (6) and interceptions (2) as opponents learned to stay away from him. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange
02/16/15 - 2015 NFL COMBINE: PROSPECTS WITH THE MOST TO GAIN OR LOSE, MEDICAL EVALUATIONS: CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Oregon...Durability was never an issue for Ekpre-Olomu after starting 40 consecutive games for the Ducks, but he suffered a serious knee injury during practice a week before the Rose Bowl. Ekpre-Olomu isn't considered an elite athlete at the position so his knee rehab will be closely inspected. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/30/14 - Oregon CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu injures knee, will miss playoffs...According to a report from Yahoo Sports' Rand Getlin, Oregon cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu suffered a "serious knee injury" in practice on Tuesday, which the school fears it could be a torn ACL. Comcast SportsNet's Aaron Fentress added that Ekpre-Olomu will miss the rest of the season. Ekpre-Olomu is Oregon's best cover corner, and he was one of three finalists for this year's Jim Thorpe Award, given to the best defensive back in the nation. Not having Ekpre-Olomu available for the Ducks' College Football Playoff Semifinal against Florida State in the Rose Bowl is a huge blow to the defense.

And the injury goes beyond damaging Oregon's title hopes as well. Ekpre-Olomu is projected to be a first or second round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and was the second-ranked cornerback prospect in the draft according to NFLDraftScout.com. A torn ACL would no doubt hurt his draft stock with the unknown timetable of his recovery. If there's any good news for Ekpre-Olomu it's that, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell, he has a loss of value insurance policy worth $3 million. He could get the entire $3 million should he slip past the early third round of the draft due to the injury. The senior cornerback has 63 tackles, two interceptions, nine passes defended and a forced fumble for the Ducks in 2014. - Tom Fornelli, CBSSports.com
