 Draft Scout Mike Rivera News
01/05/10 - LB Mike Rivera signed a futures contract with the Titans.
04/30/09 - LB Mike Rivera signed with the Bears. He was an undrafted free agent out of Cal.
04/20/09 - Linebacker is not a pressing need for the Bears in this draft but that doesn't mean they are not doing their due diligence when it comes to investigating some options. Add Kansas' Mike Rivera to the list of players the team has brought into Halas Hall for a pre-draft visit. Rivera came in for a closer look last week and was given a physical. He is the third linebacker we've found who came in for a visit joining Murray State's Nathan Williams and Notre Dame's Maurice Crum Jr. The Bears also put San Diego State's Russell Allen through a private workout. Rivera didn't have as good of a senior season for the Jayhawks as he did as a junior, but he gained some momentum at his pro day in mid-March. The Bears, represented by Ted Monago, were one of 10 teams at that pro day. Rivera, who is 6-2, 245 pounds, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds. He had a vertical jump of 38 1/2 inches, 1 1/2 inches more than any linebacker invited to the scouting combine, and measured 9 feet, 10 inches in the broad jump. Rivera was a three-time honorable mention all-Big 12 Conference selection. He had 300 tackles in his career at Kansas. Rivera's measurables make him an interesting possibility for special teams coach Dave Toub. He has experience playing inside and outside. Rivera attended the local day the Kansas City Chiefs hosted earlier this month and he's also made a visit to Carolina. He projects as a possible late-round pick, maybe in the sixth or seventh rounds. - Brad Biggs, Chicago Sun-Times
03/14/09 - Kansas Pro day: Ten teams were on hand to watch eight players run indoors on AstroTurf. LB Mike Rivera (6-2, 245 pounds) ran a 4.63 and 4.66 in the 40, had a 38 1/2-inch vertical, a 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump, a 4.08 short shuttle, a 6.67 three-cone drill and 14 bench press reps. – Gil Brandt, NFL.com
03/11/09 - Kansas Pro day: Rivera impressed the scouts with his vertical leap of 38.5 inches, which was 1 1/2 inches better than any linebacker at the combine. He also filled out two lengthy questionnaires for the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots, who were on hand, along with Tampa Bay, Chicago, Philadelphia, Tennessee, Minnesota and the Chiefs. “It’s a personality test,” Rivera said. “There’s not really any right or wrong answers on a lot of it. One hundred five questions on one and 80-something on the other.” The other question that needed to be answered was whether Rivera and Mortensen, in particular, were healthy. Mortensen is just a year removed from major knee surgery, and Rivera has suffered from knee and ankle issues. “We are healthy,” Rivera said. “We’ve had time to heal and rest, and with the injuries we had, that’s all we really needed was that time to recover.” Rivera, who has played both middle and outside linebacker for Kansas, is scheduled to work out April 11 for the Chiefs, who can conduct a Pro Day for local players. Mortensen, who is from Concord, Calif., will do the same for the 49ers. - Randy Covitz, The Kansas City Star
