Draft Scout Snapshot: A closer look at the Vikings' picks: 1/29 - Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, 6-2, 215, Tennessee...An electric playmaker that the Vikings believe can be, in time, the kind of versatile weapon that Percy Harvin was as a receiver, runner and kick returner. With little of note behind Greg Jennings at receiver, the Vikings will use the raw Patterson as a deep threat and kick returner right off the bat. Having played only one year of major college football after a stint in junior college, Patterson will need a year to mature as a route runner. - The Sports Xchange

 Draft Scout *Cordarrelle Patterson News
05/07/13 - WR Cordarrelle Patterson had one knock coming out of Tennessee -- that he was a little too raw and may lack the mature learning capacity to grasp an NFL offense immediately after only one season of major-college football. The Vikings shipped four draft picks to New England to move back into the first round and take Patterson 29th overall. It's still very early in the process, but the Vikings were impressed by how seriously Patterson took this past week's rookie minicamp from a classroom standpoint. He spent about two hours studying his playbook on Thursday night, the eve of the three-day camp. Then he woke up early Friday and brushed up some more on his job as the 'X' receiver in about 20 pass plays that would be run that day. "They're just seeing how much we can learn by throwing it at us this quick," Patterson said. "But it's not what I expected. I'm getting it faster than I thought I would."
05/06/13 - The biggest and possibly only knock on receiver Cordarrelle Patterson coming out of Tennessee was he might be a little too raw and may lack the mature learning capacity to grasp an NFL offense immediately after only one season of major-college football. Obviously, Patterson, disagrees. The Vikings hope he's right because they shipped four draft picks to New England to move back into the first round and take Patterson 29th overall. "They're just seeing how much we can learn by throwing it at us this quick," Patterson said. "But it's not what I expected. I'm getting it faster than I thought I would." That, of course, could change as more is thrown at him. Even Patterson admitted as much. But he doesn't buy the notion that he'll fall behind the normal learning curve for an NFL receiver. Not with all the special attention that he was seen receiving from Vikings receivers coach George Stewart. "I really don't think it's going to take that long," Patterson said. "Coach Stewart has already said he and I are going to have a lot of sessions. So he'll make sure I know everything. We're going to spend extra time. I know everything is going to be good."

04/28/13 - In Patterson, the Vikings landed a raw receiver with tremendous potential if he shows the maturity some believe he lacks. Patterson played only one season at Tennessee after a stint at Hutchinson Community College. "When you watch the tape on him, when they put him in the backfield and pitched him the ball, if you throw him a bubble screen, when you see him go downfield, you're talking about a 6-1, 215-pound receiver who runs a 4.3 (second 40-yard dash)," Spielman said. "He's electric with the ball in his hands." Spielman also said Patterson is "magic" as a returner, which the Vikings also were shopping for since trading Harvin. Spielman was all smiles. It was only the second time in team history that the Vikings selected three players in the first round. The other time came in 1967 when the team took running back Clinton Jones at No. 2, receiver Gene Washington at No. 8 and a guy named Alan Page at No. 15. Of course, Spielman's joy needed to shift quickly into patience because the next of his final five scheduled picks wasn't slated to take place until the 120th overall selection, a fourth-rounder on Saturday morning. - The Sports Xchange
04/25/13 - DANE BRUGLER'S FINAL 2013 DRAFT BOARD: 23. WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee (6-2, 216, 3JR)...Based on potential and natural talent, Patterson has top-10 pick written all over him with his playmaking ability, but he's still very unpolished in many areas. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
