09/16/13 - WEEK 3 SUN BELT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tyrell Pearson (South Alabama, Sr., DB),...Pearson didn’t make his first appearance of the season until the final quarter Saturday, but in that time he was responsible for two key plays in USA’s seven-point win over Western Kentucky. With the game tied at 24 in the final three minutes, the senior intercepted a Brandon Doughty pass and returned it to the WKU-1, setting up the Jaguars’ game winning drive as they scored 34 seconds later; after the Hilltoppers drove to the USA-13, Pearson picked off Doughty again, this time in the end zone on fourth down, to seal the victory. 09/16/13 - Tyrell Pearson's interception return with just more than two minutes left set up a 1-yard plunge by Trey Fetner that lifted South Alabama to a 31-24 win over visiting Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams Saturday night. The Hilltoppers (1-2, 0-1) took a 21-10 lead in the first half but could only manage a field goal in the second half — that coming on a 44-yard boot to start the fourth quarter by Garrett Schwettman after the Jaguars tied the game at 21-21.
Aleem Sunanon kicked a 37-yard field goal two minutes later to tie the score at 24-24. Ross Matheny completed 11 of 15 passes for 193 yards to lead South Alabama (2-1, 1-0). Brandon Doughty was 27 of 47 for 282 yards and three touchdowns to lead Western Kentucky, but he was also intercepted three times. - AP Sports
07/21/13 - 2013 PRESEASON ALL-SUN BELT TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): Tyrell Pearson (South Alabama, Sr., DB)...Pearson ranked in the top five in the SBC in both passes defensed and interceptions after pacing the Jags with four picks and 11 passes broken up in his first season with the program. A native of Greenville, S.C., the 5-foot-8, 150-pound senior cornerback was credited with 40 total stops including three behind the line of scrimmage, with a career-best six tackles in USA's first road game last year at North Carolina State.
Pearson intercepted one pass and broke up another in his NCAA Division I debut against Texas-San Antonio as well as at nationally-ranked Mississippi State, while in the Jaguars' home finale he was credited with four tackles and three passes defensed. - South Alabama football
