Draft Scout Damien Williams News
09/15/14 - RB Damien Williams, the undrafted rookie from Oklahoma, could be the starter this week vs. Kansas City. Williams played sparingly the previous two games, and mostly on special teams.
09/03/14 - RB Damien Williams could sneak onto the field as a kickoff returner. Williams is vying for the spot vacated by Marcus Thigpen (released).
11/25/13 - Oklahoma RB Williams dismissed from team...Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Monday that senior running back Damien Williams was dismissed from the team. Stoops did not specify why Williams was kicked off the team but the Oklahoman reported that Williams violated team rules. Williams and senior wide receiver Lecoltan Bester were both suspended from Saturday's game against the Kansas State, which the Sooners won. It was Williams' second suspension of the season. He also missed a game against Tulsa in September.
The Norman Transcript reported that Bester will return to the team this week. Williams is the team's second-leading rusher with 553 yards with a team-high seven rushing touchdowns and averages 4.9 yards per carry, despite playing in nine of 11 games. Oklahoma still has leading rusher Brennan Clay and senior backup Roy Finch in the backfield. - The Sports Xchange
11/16/13 - The Oklahoma Sooners finally got their running game going in the second half but it took a punt return from Jalen Saunders to save the season. OU blasted by the Iowa State Cyclones with a big second half in the 48-10 victory Saturday, but Saunders' 91-yard kickoff return with 1:09 left before halftime shook the Sooners out of a funk and tied the game at 10-10. Oklahoma ran for 209 yards in the third quarter after a first half where it managed just six first downs. The Sooners went on to score 38 points in about 22 minutes.
Running back Damien Williams scored on the second play of the third quarter on a 69-yard run, Brennan Clay added a 63-yard run and the Sooners added a field goal for a 17-0 quarter. Trevor Knight, who replaced starting quarterback Blake Bell in the second quarter after Bell suffered what looked like a head injury, went for a 56-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter. - The Sports Xchange
10/19/13 - For a few upset-minded moments, Kansas did not care about the recent history of its opponent. Under veteran coach Bob Stoops, Oklahoma was perfect in games played immediately after the Red River Rivalry. The Sooners just happened to come to Memorial Stadium irritated on Saturday, following a stinging loss to arch-rival Texas. Yet the Jayhawks were the early aggressors, racing to a 13-point lead before the No. 18 Sooners established control with 25 unanswered points and claimed a 34-19 victory. Stoops is 15-0 in games that followed the Texas game and the Sooners are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Big 12.
Kansas running back James Sims gouged Oklahoma for 85 first-quarter yards and finished with 129 on 23 carries, as the Sooners defense stiffened. That unit, ranked first in the Big 12 coming into the game, allowed 201 total yards, including only 16 through the air. Quarterback Blake Bell of Oklahoma passed for only 131 yards, completing 15-of-25 passes. The Sooners excelled in the running game, however, as eight backs combined for 235 yards. Kansas (2-4, 0-3) suffered its 24th consecutive loss in the Big 12 and 12th straight defeat against ranked opponents, although the Jayhawks kept it interesting. - The Sports Xchange
