 Draft Scout Ben Boulware News
12/23/16 - 2016 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): LB Ben Boulware, Sr., Clemson (37),...Boulware was the leader of the Clemson defense from his linebacker position and led the Tigers in tackles. He had 17 tackles in the win over Louisville and was named the national Defensive Player of the Week by four different services. He won the Jack Lambert Award as the top linebacker in college football on Wednesday. - Clemson Football
12/23/16 - 2016 JACK LAMBERT AWARD WINNER: Clemson senior linebacker Ben Boulware has been named the recipient of the 2016 Jack Lambert Award. The honor is presented each year to the top linebacker in the nation by the Touchdown Club of Columbus, Ohio. Boulware will receive his award at the organization’s annual banquet on Feb. 4. The award is named for Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Famer and Kent State football legend Jack Lambert. During Clemson's ACC Championship season, Boulware led the Tigers with 113 tackles, including nine for a loss and three sacks. He also forced three fumbles and intercepted a pass. He is a big reason Clemson ranks ninth in the nation in total defense, third in sacks and third in tackles for loss. He had 17 tackles in Clemson’s win over Louisville and was named national defensive player of the week by four different services. The senior, who will graduate on December 15, has been a starter each of the last two years when Clemson has qualified for the College Football Playoff and won the ACC title. The first-team All-ACC player has played 52 games in his career and has 334 career tackles, most among active Tigers. - Clemson Football
12/10/16 - 2016 ACC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Ben Boulware, LB, Sr., Clemson (4)...Clemson’s Boulware played a key role on a solid defensive unit that helped the Tigers (12-1) claim their second consecutive ACC title and College Football Playoff berth. The four-year letterman from Anderson, South Carolina, is tied for eighth among ACC tacklers with 105 in 12 games played (8.8 per game). The 2016 Jack Lambert Award winner has forced three fumbles and picked off one pass while recording 9.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 quarterback sacks. Boulware showcased his talents in last Saturday night’s Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game win over Virginia Tech, recording 10 tackles - including six solo takedowns. - ACC Football
10/14/16 - Ben Boulware said he is tired of his intensity being mislabled as dirty. The Clemson linebacker promises not to ease up when the third-ranked Tigers (6-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) take on North Carolina State (4-1, 1-0) on Saturday. Boulware came under scrutiny two weeks ago when he was caught on camera putting a headlock on Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson at the end of a play. Last week, Boulware was called for a targeting penalty - which was overturned on review - on a shoulder-high hit on Boston College quarterback Patrick Bowles. Boulware worried his image has been skewed from tough-minded defender to cheap-shot artist. "People are saying that I'm like the most hated player in college football and I'm dirty," Boulware said this week. "People saying that are just jumping to conclusions."

Boulware is a leader on a young defense ranked ninth in the country despite losing seven starters from last year's ACC champions and national title runners up. The senior was taught to play the game fullout and won't dial it down for anyone. He said he was simply holding onto Jackson to prevent him from making a play. "We're not playing golf or tennis," Boulware said. "This is an aggressive sport. You can see that I'm annoyed by it because it's been blowing up the past two weeks." Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said there's nothing dirty about Boulware, "except maybe that beard he's got." - AP Sports

10/08/16 - By Tuesday, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney could tell his team needed a break. That victory against Louisville was dramatic and draining, and a long trip on short rest was looming. Swinney eased up a bit on the third-ranked Tigers and they responded with a sharp performance when they easily could have come out flat, beating Boston College 56-10 on Friday night. "It was a taxing week, but our guys didn't complain," Swinney said. "They just went through the grind. I love that mentality of that team." Deshaun Watson threw for 266 yards and four touchdowns, and the Heisman Trophy hopeful even helped clear the way for Wayne Gallman's 59-yard scoring run with a solid block. Clemson (6-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) extended its conference winning streak to 12 games and its road winning streak to eight, which matches a school record set from 1978-79.

"I've been doing this a long time. There's a reason that record's only eight. It's really hard to do," Swinney said, doing his postgame news conference with the big bronze O'Rourke-McFadden Trophy that goes to the winner of this rivalry sitting on the table next to him. Clemson linebacker Ben Boulware said he planned to spend his rare Saturday off back home in Anderson, South Carolina, chowing down on some food from J.C.'s sandwich shop, riding his father's new dune buggy and watching college football. "I'm super pumped," he said. The Tigers definitely earned their break. Boston College (3-3, 0-3) lost its 11th consecutive ACC game. - AP Sports
