Draft Scout Danny Etling News
12/06/17 - 2017 SEC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Danny Etling, LSU,...Etling graduated in May of 2017 with a 3.72 grade point average and a degree in Mass Communications. 11/26/17 - The finest night of LSU senior quarterback Danny Etling's career may have been the final night of Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin's restive tenure with the Aggies. Etling ignited a 25-point, second-half rally and completed 19 of 30 passes for a career-high 347 yards and three touchdowns to power No. 18 LSU to a 45-21 victory over Texas A&M Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. In helping raise LSU's record to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the SEC -- the first time since 2012 that LSU has won six conference games -- Etling also dealt a severe blow to Sumlin, whose job reportedly is in jeopardy after a fourth consecutive five-loss season. The Aggies finished 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the SEC, and they have lost seven consecutive games to LSU. Sumlin went 11-2 in 2012, 9-4 in 2013 and then 8-5 in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Sumlin said after the game he was not sure if the next 24 hours -- or even the next "couple of minutes" -- would mark the end of his six seasons as A&M's head coach. "You work really, really hard and it's a results-oriented profession," Sumlin said. "It's just business as usual for me. I don't have anything scheduled -- a meeting -- (but) it probably could change here in the next couple of minutes or whatever." - The Sports Xchange
10/07/17 - LSU quarterback Danny Etling threw a touchdown pass, and the Tigers defense made a late stand in a much-needed 17-16 SEC victory over No. 21 Florida at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday. Etling, who was benched in the second half of last week's upset loss to Troy, threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Tony Carter that extended LSU's lead to 17-3 early in the third quarter. Florida's running attack got the Gators back in the game. Lamical Perine capped back-to-back scoring drives with short touchdown runs, but the Gators botched a potential tying extra point and trailed 17-16 heading into the fourth quarter. Still trailing by one with 4:01 to play, Florida started a drive from its own 4-yard line. The Gators (3-2, 3-1 SEC), lacking explosive playmakers in the passing game, methodically tried to get something going, but ended up failing on fourth-and-3 at its 25, giving the ball back to LSU on downs. The Tigers (4-2,1-1) ran out the final seconds and picked up a huge win. - The Sports Xchange
09/10/17 - The quality-control laboratory tests are over. Now the fun begins. LSU successfully road-tested its passing offense Saturday night, with senior quarterback Danny Etling throwing for 227 yards, including four completions of at least 36 yards. And the Tigers' defense became typically dominant after a sluggish start to power No. 12 LSU to a 45-10 rout of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at Tiger Stadium. In moving to 2-0 on the season -- and with the SEC opener coming up on the road Saturday against 2-0 Mississippi State -- LSU head coach Ed Orgeron was thrilled with the way Etling sprinkled in big plays to complement the power and slashing ability of tailback Derrius Guice, who gained 102 yards on 15 carries and scored twice in the first half as LSU pulled away to 28-3 lead. But he knows next week in Starkville will be a different atmosphere.
"There will be no joking around on the sidelines," he said. "It's going to be a 60-minute game. Every play, attention to detail is going to be important." Etling threw only 14 times, completing eight, but four of his throws went for 48 and 46 yards to D.J. Chark (three catches for 103 yards), 46 yards to Stephen Sullivan and 36 yards to Drake Davis. Etling also hit freshman receiver JaCoby Stevens, a converted safety, for a 27-yard sideline completion. "Danny was very accurate, and he did a tremendous job," Orgeron said. "We like a balanced look, but we'll take what they give us. Tonight was a great indication of us being 50-50. We have to run the football (253 rushing yards on 46 carries), but Danny was tremendous on the shots tonight." - The Sports Xchange
04/26/17 - LSU head coach Ed Orgeron says quarterback Danny Etling has undergone a minor back procedure. Orgeron says "everything came out all right" during Monday's procedure, which came two days after Etling played in LSU's annual spring game. Etling, who'll be a senior next fall, struggled in the scrimmage, completing only 4 of 11 passes for 53 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the first half. After Saturday night's scrimmage, Orgeron said the competition to start for the Tigers at quarterback was open. Last fall, Etling became the starter in the third game of the season and passed for 2,123 yards and 11 touchdowns. LSU went 8-4 last season, which ended with a 29-9 victory over Louisville in the Citrus Bowl. - AP Sports
