 Draft Scout Desmond King News
01/25/17 - 2017 SENIOR BOWL, TUESDAY: While Jourdan Lewis wowed with his raw athleticism, it was the physicality of King that stood out. After winning the Thorpe Award as a junior in 2015 with eight interceptions, King developed a well-earned reputation as a ball hawk. Tuesday, however, King instead used his hands to corral receivers as they attempted to gain separation and to quickly shuck them as they tried to block him in the running game. At one point, King fought through one block and even forcibly pushed a Chicago Bears' assistant coach out of bounds who was playing the part of an opposing running back on the play. King's feisty play (and lack of elite speed) is among the reasons why some scouts are projecting the cornerback to switch to safety in the NFL. - Rob Rang & Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
12/02/16 - 2016 ALL-BIG TEN FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): Desmond King, Iowa...King has handled the majority of kickoff and punt returns for the past two seasons. He averaged 9.8 yards on 25 punt returns and 27.2 yards on 25 kickoff returns this season, ranking among Big Ten leaders in both categories. His career-long 44-yard punt return led to a touchdown in Iowa's 40-10 win over No. 15 Nebraska. - Iowa Football
12/02/16 - 2016 ALL-BIG TEN FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DB Desmond King, Iowa...King, a native of Detroit, earned first-team honors for the second straight year. He recorded 53 tackles and seven pass break-ups, while also collecting two interceptions. King has 13 career interceptions to tie for fourth on Iowa's career list. He previously was named a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, Bednarik Award, and Lott IMPACT Trophy. - Iowa Football
10/20/16 - Judging Iowa cornerback Desmond King for postseason honors won't be easy. King might be the first Hawkeyes player to be considered for an All-America team simply because he stepped on the field every week. Teams have avoided throwing anywhere near King, the reigning Thorpe Award winner as the nation's top defensive back. King's numbers have suffered as a result, but Iowa ranks 13th nationally in opponent completion percentage at 51.3. King and the Hawkeyes (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) host No. 10 Wisconsin (4-2, 1-2) on Saturday.

"He's a durable player. Most of the really great players that have played here, that's one trait that ... I think is a real key to greatness," Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz. "He's playing well on defense ... and he's been doing an extraordinary job on special teams." Despite the fact that opponents have rarely given King a chance to prove himself on defense in 2016, he's still wrapping up one of the great careers in school history. "When the ball's not thrown your way, our coaching staff is still looking at how you are playing your guy, was your technique right, things like that," King said. "You've just got to play your best and be ready." - AP Sports

05/22/16 - 2016 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List: Desmond King, S, Iowa (5-11, 200, Detroit, MI): Unanimous consensus All-American last season; Thorpe winner as top defensive back in the nation; Also won Jack Tatum Award and was the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year; Had 8 interceptions (2nd in the country); 205 career tackles. - Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation/Lott IMPACT Trophy
