 Draft Scout *Carl Lawson News
09/25/17 - DE Carl Lawson had two of the Bengals' five sacks.
05/07/17 - DE Carl Lawson, a fourth-round pick, signed his rookie contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. The 6-2, 253-pound Lawson, out of Auburn, is an edge rusher who recovered from two injury-riddled seasons to register 12.5 tackles for losses, including nine sacks, and an All-SEC first-team berth.
03/13/17 - Two of Auburn's all-time best pass rushers worked together Friday at Pro Day. Pro Football Hall of Famer Kevin Greene, the New York Jets outside linebackers coach, instructed Carl Lawson during position drills. "It's always fun," Lawson said. "He's been a friend of mine for awhile. It was a great experience." Greene led the SEC in sacks with 11 in 1984. He ranks No. 3 in all-time NFL sacks. Lawson led Auburn with 9 sacks in 2016. "He's given me some tips," Lawson said. "I've texted him before he was a Jets coach, and asked him some stuff. He's always been there for me and been able to help me." Like Lawson, fellow defensive lineman Montravius Adams projects as an early NFL draft choice next month. "We came in together, from about 11th grade to now," Adams said. "Having that experience together, we always help each other. He's competitive with me. I'm competitive with him. "He's always critiquing me, just helping me with the little things, so both of us can be that much better. So I really just love him for that." - Auburn Football
03/10/17 - When Carl Lawson finished drills at Auburn's pro day, he'd wait to slap hands with the next guy in line, Montravius Adams. The two defensive linemen remain in lockstep with each other after finishing their Auburn careers with their strongest seasons, together going through the NFL combine and Friday's workouts for NFL scouts and coaches. They're the Tigers' top prospects for the April draft and some mock drafts project each as potential first-round picks though opinions seem to vary widely on both. "He's competitive with me, I'm competitive with him," Adams said. "And when he's not doing stuff - like today he wasn't doing the 40 but I did - he's always critiquing me, just helping me with the little things so both of us can be that much better. I just love him for that."

The 6-foot-4, 304-pound Adams slightly improved his combine time in the 40 (4.87), running in 4.83 seconds unofficially in the fastest of two attempts, according to Auburn. Lawson did only position drills after a strong combine when he bench-pressed 225 pounds 35 times, matching Utah offensive lineman Isaac Asiata for the combine high. The 6-foot-2, 259-pounder also clocked a 4.67-second 40 in Indianapolis. That only solidified Lawson's belief that he's a first-round talent. "Oh yeah, easily," said Lawson, a first-team All-Southeastern Conference performer who had nine sacks last season." If you followed me throughout my career, I watch film all the time and watch NFL film. I'm a guy who could consistently win one-on-ones on the edge, so I definitely feel like I'm a first-round talent." - AP Sports

01/04/17 - Neither offensive linemen nor injuries could keep Carl Lawson down. The Auburn defensive lineman said Wednesday he's turning pro after this, his redshirt junior year. He'll now will be looking to harass quarterbacks in the NFL next season, just as he did in college in 2016 when he led Auburn in tackles for a loss, with 13; and in sacks, with nine. Lawson is projected as an NFL early-round pick by ESPN. "Thank you to the whole AU family for your love and support. Please send prayers my way as I embark on this new journey to the #NFL #WarEagle," Lawson tweeted.

Lawson, who didn't play because of knee surgery in 2014 and who missed half of the 2015 season with a hip injury, was strong from start to finish this season. Rodney Garner, his defensive line coach, wasn't surprised. "He has a lot of resiliency about himself," Garner said. "He's very focused. He always just reassesses his goals and goes back to work. That's the thing I really like about him. This young man really wants to be good. He works hard at it, and not just on the field, but off the field the way he lives his life. He's an example for a lot of young men." - Auburn Football
