Draft Scout Deon Long News
07/30/14 - Other Maryland prospects worth watching: WR Deon Long, RS Senior...Like WR Stefon Diggs, Long was off to a productive 2013 season before the injury bug ended his junior year after only seven games (broken right tibia and fibula). He isn't quite as dynamic as Diggs, but Long, who has had stops at West Virginia, New Mexico and Iowa Western, is a little more polished. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
10/20/13 - Maryland loses WRs Diggs, Long for season...Maryland wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Deon Long are out for the season with broken legs. Coach Randy Edsall said Sunday that Diggs broke his right fibula and Long broke the tibia and fibula in his right leg during the Terps' 34-10 loss to Wake Forest. "It's unfortunate," Edsall told the Washington Post. "I feel bad for both those guys. We got to make sure we move forward."
Diggs and Long combined for 66 catches for 1,076 yards through seven games, accounting for more than 50 percent of the team's receptions and more than 53 percent of its receiving yards. Maryland hosts No. 9 Clemson this Saturday. - The Sports Xchange
09/13/13 - Scouting the Maryland passing game: C.J. Brown has put some gusto back in the aerial attack but he has awesome weapons of pass destruction. Feel opponent defensive coordinators' pain. FIU pointed their coverage to WR Stefon Diggs and Deon Long on the other side caught nine passes for 110 yards. ODU went the other way, hoping to limit Long. Diggs caught six passes for a career-high 179 yards. Pick your poison. The Terps are averaging 300 yards a game passing and already have five touchdowns by air. It took four games to reach that many TD passes last season. - The Sports Xchange
09/05/13 - Scouting the Maryland passing game: Just as advertised, this element of the game got a boost with Brown back. FIU tried to take away playmaker Stefon Diggs but then Juco sensation Deon Long caught nine passes and had a score. ODU will try to bring a lot more pressure on Brown but he's agile in the pocket and that means single coverage on either Diggs or Long, and that's something the Terps love to see. Brown was amazingly accurate in his return, hitting 20-of-23 passes, and Edsall praised backup Caleb Rowe, too, who was 5-of-6 for 44 yards. - The Sports Xchange
08/27/13 - NEWCOMER TO WATCH: WR Deon Long -- Long's numbers at NJCAA champion Iowa Western (100 receptions for 1,625 yards and 25 touchdowns) make him the obvious choice. Defenses have to roll their coverages to Stefon Diggs, Maryland's main man on offense last year, and that sets the 6-1, 190-pound Long up for a big season. The return of Brown, an experienced quarterback, along with the big-play receivers should pick up the entire passing game, which -- you guessed it -- was at the bottom of the ACC statistics, ahead of only triple-option Georgia Tech. One bad note was Long suffering a back injury the first week of camp, which may slow him early on. - The Sports Xchange
