 Draft Scout News
11/22/16 - LB Jaylon Smith has been activated off the non-football injury list, but it's still unknown whether the second-round pick may be able to play this season. But the Cowboys at least wanted to keep that option open. Smith sustained a severe knee injury that included nerve damage in his final bowl game at Notre Dame. That dropped him from a projected top-10 pick into the second round. The nerve in his knee has yet to regenerate and his routine is not expected to change. If it does start firing, the Cowboys will have the option to use him. With this move, the Cowboys now have a 21-day window to see whether Smith could realistically play this season or not. In three weeks, they'll decide whether to promote him to the 53-man roster, or keep him on non-football injury for the remainder of the season.
07/31/16 - RB Darren McFadden (fractured elbow) and LBs Damien Wilson (eye) and Jaylon Smith (knee) are opening camp on the non-football injury list. Wilson is on the list because he got hit in the eye with a paint ball.
06/16/16 - LB Jaylon Smith is still likely to sit out the season rehabbing his surgically repaired knee. But he says he is noticing improvement. "I'm just grinding each and every day, controlling what I can control. Once I'm healthy and I'm cleared, I'll be back out there," said Smith, the second-round pick from Notre Dame. "Everything I do, I have a clear-eye view, a focused vision, a determination, so getting back out there is my No. 1 goal. It's definitely testing my patience, and I'm loving it."
01/11/16 - Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith announced Monday he will skip his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL draft despite sustaining a serious injury to his left knee in the Fiesta Bowl. With many projecting Smith as a possible top 10 draft pick, the decision to forgo his senior season was expected before his injury in the first quarter against Ohio State. Smith has led the Irish in tackles the past two seasons and this year won the Butkus Award, given to college football's best linebacker. Smith made the announcement by a videotaped message released on Twitter, saying "It's really just perseverance from here with the adversity I'm going through right now dealing with the knee injury." Smith has not disclosed the extent of his knee injury. - AP Sports
01/01/16 - Notre Dame standout linebacker Jaylon Smith was helped from the field with an apparent leg injury early in Friday's Fiesta Bowl. Smith, a junior and potential high NFL draft pick, landed awkwardly after being pushed by an Ohio State player and had to be helped off the field, putting no weight on his left leg. A short time later, he was taken to the locker room on a cart. Smith is Notre Dame's leading tackler and winner of the Butkus Award as the nation's best linebacker. - AP Sports
