Draft Scout DeMarcus Walker News
08/01/17 - DE DeMarcus Walker, a 280-pound rookie, began taking snaps at outside linebacker Sunday and has received coaching from retired pass rusher DeMarcus Ware. Walker hasn't functioned in a stand-up role since early in his college career at Florida State. The Broncos are thin at outside linebacker due to injuries.
12/26/16 - 2016 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DE DeMarcus Walker, Sr., Florida State (31),...Five Seminoles were named All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team selections by the league’s 14 head coaches, the ACC announced. Walker was named co-Defensive Player of the Year with Clemson’s Ben Boulware, each player receiving four votes. Walker was named the media’s ACC Defensive Player of the Year last week. - Florida State Football
12/17/16 - Florida State's DeMarcus Walker has prepared for plenty of different offensive schemes during his four years in Tallahassee, but facing Michigan in the Orange Bowl is one that has piqued his interest the most. "It is going to be an old school game - Dick Butkus, Jack Lambert type of football," said Walker on Friday after the 10th-ranked Seminoles completed another practice in preparation for the Dec. 30 game. "You see a lot of spread and zone read from different teams, but you don't see that with Michigan." Florida State returned to practice on Thursday night and will practice through Tuesday. The Seminoles will arrive in Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 24.
Walker, the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, is hoping to use his final college game to show why he should be selected on the first or second day of next year's NFL draft. He is tied for the Football Bowl Subdivision lead in sacks with 15 and is the first FSU player in 20 years to have two straight seasons of double-digit sacks. He also has performed well at Hard Rock Stadium. It was his blocked extra point during the fourth quarter of the Oct. 8 game against Miami that gave the Seminoles a 20-19 win. Walker also accomplished one more goal on Friday night as he graduated with his degree in social science. One of his final goals though is trying to help Florida State end a two-game losing streak in bowl games. "The best feeling ever is accomplishing my goals. I'm pretty happy with myself and give myself a pat on the back, but I'm still not satisfied," he said. "Getting a win would mean a lot. It would teach the young guys the importance of finishing out strong and hopefully that will carry over for them into next season." - AP Sports
12/10/16 - 2016 ACC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): DeMarcus Walker, DE, Sr., Florida State (4)...Florida State’s Walker wrapped up the regular season tied with Boston College’s Harold Landry for the FBS lead in quarterback sacks with 15. The Jacksonville, Florida, senior has a total of 17.5 tackles for loss on the season and leads the Seminoles with 64 total tackles. A 2016 first-team All-ACC selection at defensive end and a two-time ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week, Walker has forced three fumbles on the season while recovering two (both in last Saturday’s win over Florida) and breaking up a pair of passes. Perhaps his biggest play during the 2016 season was his blocked extra point in the final minutes at No. 10 Miami, which preserved a 20-19 Florida State win. - ACC Football
11/30/16 - DE DeMarcus Walker was named the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday. Walker ended the regular season as Florida State's leader in tackles (64), sacks (15), tackles for loss (17.5), fumbles forced (3) and fumble recoveries (2). His 15 sacks are tied with Boston College's Harold Landry for the national lead and are third-most in a season in FSU history. Walker's 27.5 career sacks are also third in school history.
