 Draft Scout Octavias McKoy News
01/03/14 - 2013 AFCA DIVISION III COACHES’ ALL-AMERICA TEAM: RB Octavias McKoy, Sr., Western Conn.,...McKoy set 18 new rushing and scoring records in his final season. On October 26, McKoy set a new NCAA All-Divisions record when he rushed 42 times for 455 yards and five touchdowns in Western's 55-35 victory at Worcester State University. It was one of three times in a row that he scored five touchdowns in a game. He finished with 28 TDs in 2013, including a pair of scores in the Colonials' 48-35 victory over Salve Regina in the ECAC title game on November 23. McKoy gained 1,886 yards on 243 carries, both new standards, this fall. The two-year standout amassed a program-best 2,513 rushing yards in 19 games since joining the team in 2012. - Western Connecticut State football
01/03/14 - 2013 ASSOCIATED PRESS LITTLE ALL-AMERICAN THIRD TEAM: RB Octavias McKoy, senior, Western Connecticut,...McKoy, a senior from Straftord, Conn., averaged 190.6 rushing yards per game, including a 455-yard outburst at Worcester State that set the record for most rushing yards in a game in NCAA football history. He scored 26 touchdowns for the Colonials, who finished the regular season 7-2. - Western Connecticut State football
10/28/13 - Those coaches at Division II Western Connecticut State are pretty smart. They figured out Octavias McKoy's best position is running back. That was apparent Saturday when McKoy set the NCAA all-division single-game rushing record with 455 yards on 43 carries against Worcester State. The 6-foot, 200-pound senior from Stratford, Conn., had planned to accept a scholarship from Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz in 2010. But he didn't qualify academically and ended up at junior colleges in Kansas and Arizona before he landed with the Colonials. McKoy played both sides of the ball in high school and then became a full-time defensive back in junior college. When he showed up at Western Connecticut, the new coaching staff initially pegged him as a receiver.

The coaches were so impressed with his athleticism after the first week of practice that they changed their minds, figuring it would be best to get him 20 or more touches a game in the spread offense rather than the six or seven he would get at receiver. McKoy scored the winning touchdown in overtime to end the Colonials' 28-game losing streak last year. He has a Division II-leading 1,556 yards in seven games — including a 372-yard, five-TD performance against Massachusetts Maritime two weeks ago — for a 5-2 team that will have its first winning season since 2005. McKoy said he got stronger as the game went on. He scored five touchdowns in his team's 55-35 win. "I went into another gear," he said. "As the game was going on, I just told myself I've got to keep running, keep the Gatorade in me, and keep running some more." - AP Sports

10/27/13 - Western Connecticut RB Octavias McKoy sets NCAA rushing record...A new all-division single-game NCAA record was set on Saturday, thanks to Division III Western Connecticut and running back Octavias McKoy. McKoy carried the ball 43 times for 455 yards, topping the previous record of 441 yards, set in 1996 by Dante Brown of Division III Marietta. The Western Connecticut running back also scored five touchdowns on runs of 15, 1, 41, 53, and 71 yards in the Colonials' 55-35 win against Worcester State.

Four of the top five single-game rushing performances are from Division III, with North Carolina A&T (FCS) running back Maurice Hicks ranking third on that list with 437 yards rushing in 2001against Morgan State. LaDanian Tomlinson still holds the FBS single-game rushing record, set at 406 yards when TCU faced UTEP in 1999. - Chip Patterson, CBSSports.com

10/27/13 - Octavias McKoy ran for 455 yards to set an NCAA record for all-divisions in Division III Western Connecticut State's 55-35 victory over Worcester State on Saturday. McKoy scored five touchdowns in a game for the third time this season. He broke the rushing record previously held by Dante Brown of Marietta College. Brown ran for 441 on Oct. 5, 1996, against Baldwin-Wallace. McKoy, a senior, had 43 carries. He scored from 15, 1, 41, 53 and 71 yards out and has 23 TDs on the season. LaDainian Tomlinson holds the FBS record with 406 yards for Texas Christian against UTEP on Nov. 20, 1999. - AP Sports
