 Draft Scout Roc Thomas News
12/20/17 - 2017 AFCA FCS COACHES' SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: RB Roc Thomas, 5-11 193, Sr., Jacksonville State, John Grass Oxford, Ala. (Oxford),...Thomas grabbed his second All-America mention in a Gamecock uniform after carrying the load for JSU ion 2017. He was the OVC's Offensive Player of the Year, a First Team All-OVC selection and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award after leading the Gamecocks and the OVC with 1,065 yards on 178 carries. He led the OVC and ranked 11th nationally with 5.98 yards per carry. The Oxford, Ala., native's 109.08 all-purpose yards per game was second in the OVC and meant he was responsible for 30 percent of the Gamecocks' 368.7 yards of total offense per game in his senior season. Thomas was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week five times this season and was the FCS National Player of the Week on Sept. 3. - Jacksonville State Football
11/22/17 - 2017 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Roc Thomas (RB), Jacksonville State...A year ago, Thomas joined the Jacksonville State team after transferring from Auburn and rushed for nearly 800 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games. This year, after the graduation of two-time OVC Player of the Year Eli Jenkins, Thomas took his game to another level, rushing for 991 yards and 12 touchdowns and catching 16 passes for 235 yards to account for 1,226 all-purpose yards in 11 regular season games. Thomas averaged 6.2 yards/carry, a mark that ranked ninth nationally, his 12 rushing scores were 11th in the FCS and his 90.1 yards/game average ranked 21st. The numbers were even more impressive considering he accounted for only 33.9 percent of Jacksonville State's rushing attempts during the year (his single-game high rushing attempts mark was 19 carries in the season-opener against Chattanooga). Thomas, who was named OVC Player of the Week five times during the year, had multiple touchdowns in four games, including two scores and a season-high 138 rushing yards in a win over Murray State. Thomas is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award this season. Jacksonville State is only the second program in OVC history to have three-straight OVC Offensive Player of the Year winners (joining Eastern Illinois who had Tony Romo win the award three times in a row). - Ohio Valley Football
11/16/17 - Bryant Horn rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown and Roc Thomas 105 yards and a score to lead Jacksonville State to a 36-6 win over Tennessee State on Thursday night in a regular-season finale. The Gamecocks (10-1, 8-0), who clinched their fourth straight Ohio Valley Conference title last week, now prepare of the FCS playoffs where they will be a high seed. The field will be announced on Sunday. Horn also threw for 115 yards and another score, a 45-yard pass to Austin Cummins, for a 10-0 halftime lead. Thomas ran 50 yards for a touchdown and Horn added a 44-yarder for a 24-0 lead in the third quarter. Cade Stinnett added a pair field goals, Jonathan Hagler sacked Michael Hughes for a safety and Tramel Terry ran 8 yards for a TD for the Gamecocks, who outgained Tennessee State 493-97. The Tigers (6-5, 2-5), who came in on a two-game win streak, scored their only touchdown on Hughes' 27-yard pass to Chris Rowland. Jacksonville State has won 32 consecutive conference games, the longest active streak in Division I. - AP College Football
11/11/17 - Roc Thomas rushed for two touchdowns, Joseph Roberts recovered a fumble in the final minute, and Jacksonville State escaped with a 14-7 victory over UT Martin on Saturday to win the Ohio Valley Conference title for the fourth straight season. Jacksonville State (9-1, 7-0) also won its 31st straight conference game. Facing a fourth-and-goal from the 1, Jacksonville State elected to try a short field goal but Cade Stinnett's 18-yarder was blocked. There was a 15-yard penalty called on JSU after the play, placing UT Martin at its 39 with 1:29 remaining. After an incompletion, Dresser Winn rolled to his left but fumbled it with 1:09 remaining and Roberts sealed it. Thomas had a 1-yard score in the first and a 14-yarder 48 seconds before halftime. Dresser Winn threw for 128 yards and a score for UT Martin (5-5, 3-4). Devonte Howard's 32-yard grab made it 14-7 late in the third. - AP College Football
10/14/17 - Bryant Horn threw for 158 yards and a score and rushed 11 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns and Jacksonville State rolled past Eastern Kentucky 41-25 on Saturday. De'Marcus Flowers took the opening kickoff and returned it 66 yards to the Eastern Kentucky 33-yard line. Horn then ended the short drive with a 13-yard touchdown run and a lead that was never challenged. Eastern Kentucky took its opening possession and went on a 15-play march that ended, when on third-and-goal at the Gamecocks' 13, Siran Neal picked off Tim Boyle in the end zone for a touchback. Jacksonville State's Roc Thomas finished a 6-play, 80-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown run. Cade Stinnet's 46-yard field goal midway through the third quarter made the score 34-3. Jacksonville State (5-1, 3-0 Ohio Valley) now has won a record 27 straight games in conference play. Boyle threw for 186 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions for Eastern Kentucky (1-5, 1-3). - AP College Football
