 Draft Scout *Budda Baker News
11/20/17 - SS Budda Baker, the team's rookie second-round pick out of Washington, made his first start of the season in place of the injured Tyvon Branch, and didn't disappoint in the loss to Houston. He finished with 13 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup. "Throughout the week I got all the (first-team) reps so that helped a lot," Baker said. "Once it's game time, you just get to play." Head coach Bruce Arians was impressed, saying, "I thought Budda played his tail off. Just from the sideline, making the plays he made. He's going to be a heck of a player
11/15/17 - S Budda Baker has been making his mark as a rookie this season by starring on special teams as the Cardinals' best gunner on kickoff and punt coverage. But with the season-ending knee injury to starting strong safety Tyvon Branch, Baker is about to get a huge extra dose of playing time in Arizona's base 4-3 defense.
11/10/17 - S Budda Baker, a second-round pick this year out of Washington who has earned more playing time over the past few weeks, will step in and replace the injured Tyvon Branch. "Yeah, Budda played pretty solid," head coach Bruce Arians said, referring to Thursday night's game against Seattle. "He had a couple alignment errors, dropped a ball right in his hands that we'd anticipate an interception. That was probably his biggest negative play. He made a great play saving a touchdown on the (Russell Wilson) scramble play, and we gave it up the next play, but he'll be fine. With 10 days of work, he'll be ready to go."
03/13/17 - Washington Pro day: Though few of the estimated 50 NFL scouts and coaches attending the University of Washington pro day expected him to compete in any of the measured drills, record-setting speedster John Ross was still the big name entering the program's pro day workout Saturday. The real star of the defensive back drills was Baker, whose elite quickness had scouts buzzing. The "biggest" knock on Baker is his lack of ideal size at a shade under 5-foot-10 and just 195 pounds, but there was no denying his fluidity Saturday. He also made several outstanding catches, catching up to passes that seemed out of his reach due to his rare straight-line speed (4.45 at the combine) for his position. Baker's quick feet, loose hips and acceleration could earn him late first-round consideration as teams feel that he can play both nickel cornerback and safety. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
01/03/17 - Four Washington football players safety Budda Baker, cornerback Sidney Jones, defensive lineman Elijah Qualls and wide receiver John Ross have opted to forgo their senior seasons and enter their names in the 2017 NFL Draft. "These four players have been a big part of the progress this program has made during their time here," said UW head coach Chris Petersen. "We wish them all the success in the world as they pursue their professional goals." The Huskies completed a 12-2 season in the College Football Playoff semifinal last Saturday at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Baker, from Bellevue, Wash., was a consensus first-team All-America selection as a true junior in 2016. He led the Husky defense with 71 total tackles and 10 tackles for a loss. He also notched three sacks and two interceptions for a defense that led the Pac-12 in both scoring and total defense. Baker started all 41 games of his three-year career at the UW. - Washington Football
