09/10/14 - DE Larry English was signed by the Buccaneers Tuesday (Sept. 9).
08/29/14 - DE Larry English, the former first round pick in 2009 who was signed two weeks ago after being released by the Chargers, was let go again Friday.
08/15/14 - DE Larry English was selected 16th overall by the Chargers in the 2009 NFL draft, one pick before QB Josh Freeman went to the Bucs. Freeman is out of football but English was signed by the Bucs Thursday.
In San Diego, English struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness at outside linebacker in the Chargers 3-4 scheme, recording 11 sacks in 52 games during five seasons. He will be an outside rusher for the Bucs.
"He's a good football player," coach Lovie Smith said. "Injuries have kind of held him up a little bit. But he's what we're looking for – speed, edge rusher. I had a chance to see him work out a little bit yesterday. We feel like he might be able to give us something. We'll try to give him a couple reps this weekend."
08/14/14 - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed pass rusher Larry English, a former first-round pick by the San Diego Chargers who was released in July.
English was the 16th overall pick out of Northern Illinois in 2009, but failed to live up to lofty expectations as he has dealt with a string of injuries during his first five NFL season. In 52 career games, including nine starts, English has 80 tackles, 11.0 sacks, two passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
An outside linebacker in San Diego's 3-4 scheme, English will compete for a roster spot at defensive end in Bucs coach Lovie Smith's 4-3.
07/22/14 - LB Larry English had his contract terminated by the Chargers Tuesday (July 22). The Chargers released outside linebacker Larry English, the team announced today.
"We'd like to thank Larry for his five years of dedicated service to the Chargers," general manager Tom Telesco said. "Larry always gave us everything he had on the field while making significant contributions to many deserving organizations in the San Diego community."
English joined the Chargers as a first-round pick in 2009. Injuries limited him to 52 games and over five seasons in which he recorded 82 tackles and 11 sacks.
