 Draft Scout Jeremiah Johnson News
01/15/10 - RB Jeremiah Johnson underwent shoulder surgery and spent the season on injured reserve. The coaches think he fits the zone scheme, but he has to prove it.
08/09/09 - RB Jeremiah Johnson was placed on Injured Reserve by Houston.
08/07/09 - RB Jeremiah Johnson was waived/injured by Houston.
06/25/09 - RB Jeremiah Johnson used the three-day minicamp as a learning experience after missing the organized team activities because his class at Oregon had not graduated. By the time Johnson arrived in Houston, he had fallen behind Arian Foster, the other undrafted rookie who's trying to make the team. Johnson and Foster are competing with veterans Chris Brown and Ryan Moats for places on the team and playing time behind starter Steve Slaton. "I've been trying to catch up," Johnson said after the last day of minicamp Wednesday. "The first day I was out here, I was real far behind, but I gathered a lot of information. "I'm trying to learn everything I can. I'm trying to take everything they tell me and apply it on the field. I want to show them I can be a hard-nosed runner." The Texans coaches want Johnson to weigh about 210 when he reports for training camp July 30. The competition at backup running back should be fierce. "When I come back for camp, I'm going to use the brace because I'm going to be competing and trying to make the team," Johnson said. "I've got to learn the plays and be consistent. "I'm in an offense where I can do what I do best — make one cut and go. That's the system we used in high school, and I'm excited to go back to it."
05/07/09 - RB Jeremiah Johnson (5-9, 209) went undrafted largely due to his injury history, but the Texans are encouraged he can be an NFL back. "In four years at Oregon, his worst average per carry was 6.1 yards," Shanahan said about Johnson, who averaged 6.7 yards a carry in his career. "After Jonathan Stewart left (for Carolina), as a senior, he averaged 7.1 yards a carry." Johnson missed most of his junior year after undergoing surgery to repair a torn knee ligament. He returned last season to rush for 1,201 yards and 13 touchdowns.
