 Draft Scout Yvenson Bernard News
04/30/08 - Former North Medford High standout David Faaeteete was one of 10 undrafted players to sign a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears on Monday. Faaeteete, a 6-foot-2, 310-pound defensive lineman, compiled 19 tackles — eight for a loss — and two sacks last season for Oregon. His primary responsibility as a defensive tackle involved occupying as much space and opposing blockers as possible to allow his teammates to make plays. Faaeteete helped lead the Black Tornado football team to a runner-up showing in 2003 during his senior season. He also was named the state's defensive player of the year in 2003. Oregon State also had three players sign free agent contracts over the weekend, with running back Yvenson Bernard signing with the St. Louis Rams and center Kyle DeVan and defensive end Dorian Smith each signing with the Washington Redskins. Bernard joins teammate Roy Schuening in St. Louis after the Rams selected the offensive guard in the fifth round of the NFL draft. The 5-8, 204-pound Bernard totaled 3,862 rushing yards at OSU, second in school history and sixth all-time in the Pac-10 record book. If Bernard makes the roster, he will be a backup to Steven Jackson, the player he replaced in Corvallis. - Mail Tribune
03/15/08 - While Stroughter's football future suddenly looks better, several of his former teammates are hopeful of a future in the NFL. It made Friday's pro day on the OSU campus somewhat nervewracking for the athletes, with an estimated 20 NFL scouts scrutinizing 40-yard-dashes, cone drills, and bench presses. Running back Yvenson Bernard said that compared to the NFL Combine and the pro days, playing in front of a packed stadium is a piece of cake. "I'll be honest with you, I think this is harder,'' said Bernard, who improved his much-maligned 40 time to 4.6 according to one clocking. "I'll go out there in front of 50,000 people, whatever, and play all day. But this? With all those people staring at you?'' Four OSU players performed at last month's Combine, a cattle call for players hoping to get their name called during the April 26-27 NFL draft: Bernard, right guard Roy Schuening, defensive end Dorian Smith and placekicker Alexis Serna. Schuening, who worked out on a limited basis and isn't fully recovered from a Combine hamstring pull, is rated No. 2 at his position by several draft experts and is projected to be picked in the second or third round. Bernard, Smith, Serna, and outside linebacker Derrick Doggett - who may play strong safety in the NFL - are longshots to get called in the two-day draft but figure to land in some team's camp as free agents. - Paul Buker, The Oregonian
01/05/08 - PLAYER OF THE YEAR: RB Yvenson Bernard missed the Dec. 1 Civil War with Oregon because of arthroscopic knee surgery but then returned to run all over Maryland in the Emerald Bowl. Bernard finished No. 2 all-time at OSU in rushing (3,862) and all-purpose yards (4,822) and third in touchdowns (38) and was No. 6 in the Pac-10 in all-time rushing and tied for ninth with 118 catches.
12/29/07 - Yvenson Bernard sees a bright future for James Rodgers at Oregon State after the freshman helped send off the senior with a win in the Emerald Bowl. Maryland saw far too much of the final performance by the Beavers' talented ball-carrying duo. Bernard rushed for 177 yards and a touchdown in his final college game, and Oregon State stopped the Terrapins' running game cold to emerge from a rainy baseball stadium with a 21-14 victory Friday night, the Beavers' fourth straight bowl victory. Though Bernard did the heavy lifting with 38 carries, Rodgers rushed for a career-best 115 yards, caught an early TD pass and recovered Bernard's fumble for the second half's only score. "That kid does it all," Bernard said of Rodgers. "He's definitely a threat, and you see what he causes on the offensive side. I can't imagine being a defense going against our offense." Though the Beavers dominated much of the play, they only went ahead when Bernard's fumble at the goal line was recovered by Rodgers, who stretched out for a TD with 10 seconds left in the third quarter. - AP Sports
