Draft Scout Steve Smith News
05/29/13 - WR Steve Smith, who earned Pro Bowl recognition and a Super Bowl ring with the New York Giants before nondescript stops with three other teams, announced his retirement after six NFL seasons.
Smith was attempting to revive his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after catching 14 passes with the St. Louis Rams in 2012.
"I've been blessed to play the game that I love at the highest level for the past six years. I will always cherish my time with the New York Giants and our Super Bowl victory in 2007. I also want to thank the Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers organizations for the opportunities they gave me. This was not an easy decision, but it's the right decision for me at this time," Smith said in a statement.
04/03/13 - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed unrestricted free-agent kicker Nate Kaeding, defensive tackle Derek Landri, running back Brian Leonard, defensive end George Selvie and wide receiver Steve Smith on Tuesday.
Smith has 245 receptions for 2,641 yards and 12 touchdowns in six NFL seasons. The former New York Giants receiver was named to the Pro Bowl in 2009 after a setting a team record with 107 receptions. He spent the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and the St. Louis Rams.
10/10/12 - WR Steve Smith is expected to be active this week with Danny Amendola likely to be out. Asked how Smith handled being inactive the last two games, coach Jeff Fisher said, "Like a pro. Worked in, just changed his role, worked to give the defense the best look he possibly could. He even continued with that (Wednesday). Don't expect him to like it, but he understood and he understands patience. Unfortunately through injury, he's been given another opportunity."
10/05/12 - WR Steve Smith has been inactive for two games, but now could be counted on in the passing game with Danny Amendola expected to miss several games because of a collarbone/shoulder injury.
10/01/12 - WR Steve Smith, who had five receptions for 70 yards through the first three games, was inactive for Sunday's game against Seattle.
