Draft Scout Kory Lichtensteiger News
01/07/16 - C Kory Lichtensteiger appears set to return to the field for the first time since Oct. 11.
Out with a pinched nerve in his neck thanks to a disk issue, Lichtensteiger began practicing again in late December as he tried to return from the injured reserve/designated to return list. Unfortunately, the timetable meant Lichtensteiger could only come back if Washington made the playoffs.
Now that it's actually happened, he will likely take over for Josh LeRibeus, the starter for the past 11 games. LeRibeus is a converted guard, however, and there have been some issues with snaps and snap counts.
"Kory will help. He's a talented player, an experienced player, very athletic, just the ultimate competitor," quarterback Kirk Cousins said. "He's never going to quit, he's never going to stop. You love having that. It's been really good to get Josh LeRibeus a lot of work because now we feel like we have a really experienced center who can come in if anything were to happen."
01/05/16 - C Kory Lichtensteiger could be activated from the injured reserve/designated to return list for the wild-card game. He was out with a disc injury that caused weakness on his left side. If the Redskins have seen enough progress from Lichtensteiger over the past two weeks of practice plus this week's preparation, they could re-insert him into the lineup.
01/05/16 - C Kory Lichtensteiger was activated from reserve/injured, designated for return by the Redskins Tuesday (Jan. 5).
12/23/15 - C Kory Lichtensteiger, currently on reserve/injured, designated for return with the Redskins, had his practice period begin Tuesday (Dec. 22).
12/23/15 - C Kory Lichtensteiger was happy to be back on the practice field on Wednesday. Lichtensteiger hasn't played since suffering a pinched nerve and a disk problem in an Oct. 11 loss to Atlanta. Weakness on his left side led the Redskins to place Lichtensteiger on the injured reserve/designated to return list and Wednesday was the first day he could practice, a two-week trial period where he doesn't count against a roster spot.
Unfortunately, that meant he was out until the playoffs. Washington might get there. All it needs is to beat Philadelphia this weekend to earn the NFC East crown. That would be ironic for Lichtensteiger, who helped the team at left guard in 2012 as it won seven games in a row to make the playoffs, but couldn't play in the wild-card game against Seattle.
This time he could miss the playoff push and get to play in the game instead. If it works out. For now, Lichtensteiger is allowed to practice this week and next week and serve as a 64th player on the roster while the team determines if he's healthy enough to play. Josh LeRibeus has been the starter in his place. Brian de la Puente signed to be the backup center.
"If we make the playoffs I'm good to go," Lichtensteiger said. "I just don't know how they plan on using me when that happens."
