Draft Scout Joe Staley News
09/24/14 - OT Joe Staley is tied for the team lead in penalties with three. He did not practice Wednesday, as has been the norm this season, on what is labeled a "veteran's day off."
09/19/14 - T Joe Staley (knee) is probable for Sunday's game at the Arizona Cardinals.
09/18/14 - T Joe Staley has been allowed to sit out Wednesday workouts, getting what is called a veteran's day off. He has been listed as having a knee injury on the 49ers' official practice participation reports. But like last week, Staley was a full participant at Thursday's practice, demonstrating that the knee is a non-issue.
09/15/14 - LT Joe Staley was called for his second and third penalties of the young season in Sunday's loss to Chicago. Particularly hurtful was a holding call on a 10-yard run by QB Colin Kaepernick in the second quarter. The net 20-yard loss occurred during a first-quarter drive that wound up nine yards short of the goal line. The 49ers had 16 penalties in the game, their most since Jan. 3, 2000.
07/17/14 - T Joe Staley signed a two-year contract extension with the 49ers through the 2019 season.
"In today's NFL, it is rare for a player to play his entire career with one team," said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. "With this extension, Joe will likely be a 49er for life. He is a three-time All-Pro and core member of our football team. His commitment and professionalism have been great assets to our team and our community. This extension reflects our philosophy of investing in our core players."
Staley (6-5, 315) was originally selected in the first round (28th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft by San Francisco. He earned All-Pro honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013, in addition to being selected to three consecutive Pro Bowls (2012-2014). During his career, he has started all 98 regular season games in which he has played, as well as eight postseason contests.
In 2013, Staley was a major part of the 49ers ground attack that ranked third in rushing yards (2,201) and fourth in touchdowns (18). Staley and his fellow linemen helped the offense amass the second-most total net yards (494) on opening day in the history of the franchise versus the Green Bay Packers.
