Draft Scout DeMeco Ryans News
03/30/15 - LB DeMeco Ryans signed a one-year contract extension with the Eagles Monday (March 30).
Ryans was due to make $6.9 million in 2015, the final year of his previous deal, and the added year is expected to lower his salary-cap number.
Ryans, 30, is coming off an Achilles injury that ended his 2014 season in November.
Acquired in 2012 from the Houston Texans, Ryans has led the Eagles with 390 tackles in 40 games over the past three years. He also has five sacks, four interceptions and one fumble recovery.
A second-round pick by the Texans in 2006, Ryans played in Houston for his first six seasons. He was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2006 and made the Pro Bowl team in 2007 and 2009 and the All-Pro team in 2007.
11/04/14 - LB DeMeco Ryans (ruptured Achilles) was placed on reserve/injured by the Eagles Tuesday (Nov. 4).
11/03/14 - LB DeMeco Ryans, who is the Eagles' defensive leader, suffered what appeared to be a ruptured Achilles tendon in Sunday's game. He was scheduled to have an MRI Monday afternoon, but he is expected to miss the rest of the season.
11/02/14 - LB DeMeco Ryans was lost for the season to a right Achilles tendon tear sustained following an interception during the fourth quarter. Ryans crumpled untouched to the turf after picking off Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and was carted off the field. While playing for the Texans in 2010, Ryans tore his right Achilles and missed the final 10 games of the season. That injury also occurred in Houston at then-Reliant Stadium.
10/29/14 - Sunday's game in Houston is a homecoming of sorts for Eagles linebacker DeMeco Ryans. Ryans spent six seasons with the Texans before they traded him to the Eagles in March of 2012. Ryans, who still lives in Houston in the offseason, said he has no hard feelings about being traded.
"I could see it coming," Ryans said. "I wasn't playing on third down. I was only playing base. I just got a new contract there. So I knew it wasn't going to last long. They said they couldn't pay me what they were paying me if I wasn't playing every down. I said cool. There were no hard feelings or anything. I understood. Me being six years in the game, it wasn't surprising to me. I wasn't upset or anything like that. I still had an opportunity to come to (another) team and play football."
