Draft Scout Matt Flynn News
03/08/15 - QB Matt Flynn, unrestricted FA update, has been the ideal understudy and confidant for Aaron Rodgers the better part of the last seven seasons. Yet, Flynn, as was proven when he fled Green Bay in 2012 to take big money and a would-be starting opportunity with the Seattle Seahawks and then on to the Oakland Raiders in 2013, will never be confused for a bona fide NFL quarterback. He turns 30 in June, and his return for another season of lending an ear on the bench to Rodgers is up in the air, what with the team's interest in bringing back a younger Scott Tolzien.
04/15/14 - QB Matt Flynn agreed to contract terms and will re-sign with the Packers as the primary backup to quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Flynn rejoined the Packers last season following a series of unexpected moves led him back to Green Bay as a street free agent.
Flynn signed a three-year, $26 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent following four years as a backup with the Packers. He started two games with Green Bay, including the epic 480-yard, six-touchdown record-setting performance in a Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions.
Elbow issues opened the door for then-rookie Russell Wilson to pass Flynn for the starting quarterback job in 2012. A year later, the Oakland Raiders traded for Flynn with the plan of using him as their starter. The Raiders had shipped Carson Palmer, the incumbent starter, to the Arizona Cardinals. But Flynn lost out to Terrelle Pryor and was later released. He was with the Bills before ending up back with the Packers.
Flynn made five starts for the Packers last season with Rodgers (collarbone) injured and had seven touchdowns and four interceptions.
12/16/13 - QB Matt Flynn, making a third straight start in place of an injured Aaron Rodgers, led Green Bay on five straight touchdown drives in the second half as it overcame a 26-3 halftime deficit and stunned the host Dallas Cowboys 37-36 on Sunday. Flynn threw touchdown passes to four different players in the big comeback. He finished 26-for-39 for 299 yards with an interception for a passer rating of 113.1.
12/09/13 - QB Matt Flynn made a second straight start and helped the Packers end their five-game winless streak as they rallied in the second half for a 22-21 victory over visiting Atlanta on Sunday. Filling in for an injured Aaron Rodgers, Flynn had a mostly sharp passing performance by going 24-for-32 for 258 yards and a touchdown with one interception for a 95.6 efficiency rating. Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that the team is planning to have Flynn make another start next Sunday, when Green Bay plays at Dallas.
11/26/13 - QB Matt Flynn is preparing to make the start in the Thanksgiving Day game at Detroit on Thursday. Coach Mike McCarthy announced after Tuesday's practice that Flynn handled the first-string reps in the team's jog-through practice, although injured starter Aaron Rodgers participated on a limited basis. Flynn, in a relief role, rallied the Packers from a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter in a game that ended in a 26-26 tie against Minnesota on Sunday.
