 Draft Scout Matt Flynn News
07/27/15 - QB Matt Flynn failed his physical with the Patriots Monday (July 27) and was placed on active/non-football injury.
06/12/15 - QB Matt Flynn, who wasn't tendered as a UFA by the Packers on May 12, was signed by the Patriots Friday (June 12). The 29-year-old Flynn played in seven games for the Packers last season. Flynn joins a Patriots roster that has Tom Brady and second-year player Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback, but New England is likely to be without Brady at the start of the season while he serves a suspension resulting from the Deflategate investigation. The journeyman Flynn has spent seven seasons in the NFL with the Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders and the Buffalo Bills. A seventh-round draft pick by the Packers in 2008, Flynn has played in 51 games and started seven, throwing for 2,541 yards and 17 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. Flynn was Green Bay's backup from 2008 through 2011 and then signed with Seattle as an unrestricted free agent in 2012. A year later, he was traded to the Raiders but was released on Oct. 7, 2013, and signed a week later by the Buffalo Bills before being released again and returning to Green Bay. In seven games last season for the Packers, Flynn completed 8-of-16 passes for 66 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. But the Packers decided to go forward with Scott Tolzien as their No. 2 quarterback behind starter Aaron Rodgers as the start of training camp in late July draws closer.
03/08/15 - QB Matt Flynn, unrestricted FA update, has been the ideal understudy and confidant for Aaron Rodgers the better part of the last seven seasons. Yet, Flynn, as was proven when he fled Green Bay in 2012 to take big money and a would-be starting opportunity with the Seattle Seahawks and then on to the Oakland Raiders in 2013, will never be confused for a bona fide NFL quarterback. He turns 30 in June, and his return for another season of lending an ear on the bench to Rodgers is up in the air, what with the team's interest in bringing back a younger Scott Tolzien.
04/15/14 - QB Matt Flynn agreed to contract terms and will re-sign with the Packers as the primary backup to quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Flynn rejoined the Packers last season following a series of unexpected moves led him back to Green Bay as a street free agent. Flynn signed a three-year, $26 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent following four years as a backup with the Packers. He started two games with Green Bay, including the epic 480-yard, six-touchdown record-setting performance in a Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions. Elbow issues opened the door for then-rookie Russell Wilson to pass Flynn for the starting quarterback job in 2012. A year later, the Oakland Raiders traded for Flynn with the plan of using him as their starter. The Raiders had shipped Carson Palmer, the incumbent starter, to the Arizona Cardinals. But Flynn lost out to Terrelle Pryor and was later released. He was with the Bills before ending up back with the Packers. Flynn made five starts for the Packers last season with Rodgers (collarbone) injured and had seven touchdowns and four interceptions.
12/16/13 - QB Matt Flynn, making a third straight start in place of an injured Aaron Rodgers, led Green Bay on five straight touchdown drives in the second half as it overcame a 26-3 halftime deficit and stunned the host Dallas Cowboys 37-36 on Sunday. Flynn threw touchdown passes to four different players in the big comeback. He finished 26-for-39 for 299 yards with an interception for a passer rating of 113.1.
