 Draft Scout Tom Brady News
05/16/16 - QB Tom Brady appealed his four-game suspension Monday. Brady would miss the first four regular-season games of the 2016 season if his appeal stands and return Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.
04/25/16 - QB Tom Brady's four-game suspension for his role in Deflategate was reinstated by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York. The appeals court reversed a federal judge's ruling from September, siding with the league in a battle with the players union. The appeals court ruled NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was within his authority granted by the CBA, which is currently a major sticking point in tense relations between the players and league. Brady is now slated to miss games against the Arizona Cardinals (Sept. 11), Miami Dolphins (Sept. 18), Houston Texans (Sept. 22) and Buffalo Bills (Oct. 2). He would be eligible to make his regular-season debut in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 9.
03/10/16 - QB Tom Brady's two-year contract extension includes a $28 million signing bonus. The total value of Brady's deal is $60 million over four years, and would keep him in New England through the 2019 season when he will be 42 years old. Brady will earn $30 million over the next two seasons, $7 million less than what the Houston Texans will pay newly signed quarterback Brock Osweiler. The four-time Super Bowl champion has always maintained he could play well into his 40s.
03/01/16 - QB Tom Brady reportedly agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2019 season when he will be 42 years old. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini, Brady's salary-cap charge for 2016 was scheduled to be a team-high $15 million and the extension would lower that number. Brady, who turns 39 in August, has two years left on his existing contract, paying him $9 million in 2016 and $10 million in 2017. The four-time Super Bowl champion has always maintained he could play well into his 40s. "I'd like to play a long time, yeah, a long time," Brady said in October. "There's a lot that goes into playing well. I've played with a lot of great teammates. But I want to play for a long time, maybe 10 more years. I think that's probably what my goal is. "Well, it's not always up to me. That's what my goals are, so that's just what I'm hoping. And it will take a lot to achieve that. Obviously a team has to want you, but I think that's ... you know, I love playing this sport. I love making a commitment to my teammates and my coaches, and hopefully I can do it for a long time."
01/24/16 - QB Tom Brady's bid to lead the Patriots to a second consecutive Super Bowl title was derailed by a 20-18 loss at Denver on Sunday in the AFC title game. Brady, who fell to 2-7 all-time at Denver, was 27 of 56 for 310 yards with one score and two interceptions. He was also the team's leading rusher with 13 yards on three carries. Brady threw a pair of first-half interceptions for just the second time in his playoff career. The other time was Jan. 10, 2010, in what became a 33-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
