 Draft Scout Drew Brees News
09/14/14 - QB Drew Brees' slow start doomed the Saints. He completed 15 of 24 passes for 109 yards in the first half. One of his errant throws was returned 62 yards for a touchdown by Shaun Gipson.
08/21/14 - QB Drew Brees will likely make his first and only appearance of the preseason in Saturday night's nationally televised matchup with the Indianapolis Colts in Lucas Oil Stadium. Brees had full participation in practice all week for the first time since straining his left oblique muscle on Aug. 1 and missing a scrimmage and the team's first two exhibition games with the St. Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans. But last Sunday, Brees returned and said he hoped to play against the Colts and coach Sean Payton indicated after a rare night practice on Wednesday that the eight-time Pro Bowl pick was "ready to go." He'll likely play the first half, which is how long he normally goes in the third preseason game. Brees indeed appeared ready to go in Wednesday night's practice, throwing a handful of touchdown passes and scrambling up the middle for a nice gain in team drills. "I thought he looked pretty sharp tonight ... there were a handful of throws that were exceptional," Payton said of Brees, who worked hard on the side when he couldn't participate in team drills. "I think we've handled it the right way, and he is pretty smart and he knew where he was at. "My only concern was (whether) we had set our mind on a game maybe, and that really shouldn't dictate his healing. Now, it happened to be that he feels ready to go."
08/17/14 - QB Drew Brees hasn't played in the first two preseason games because of a strained oblique, but could play this week after working in team drills Sunday.
08/16/14 - QB Drew Brees worked on a limited basis Tuesday after missing 1 1/2 weeks with a strained left oblique, but didn't play Friday against the Tennessee Titans.
08/13/14 - QB Drew Brees was back at practice this week after missing about a week and a half of training camp work. However, he is unlikely to play in the Saints' second exhibition game against the Tennessee Titans on Friday night in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Brees was back in pads for the first time since Aug. 1 after recovering from a strained left oblique muscle; Bailey participated in practice for the first time since suffering an undisclosed injury one day before Brees was hurt. Brees had been day-to-day, according to Saints coach Sean Payton, but played pitch and catch with free safety Jairus Byrd before last Friday's preseason opener with the St. Louis Rams. On Monday, Brees threw passes to injured wide receiver Kenny Stills, who ran intermediate routes against Bailey. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Brees worked mainly on his conditioning and footwork while other players participated in team drills. Brees graduated to some individual work Wednesday, but still was limited.
