Draft Scout Lance Briggs News
09/02/15 - LB Lance Briggs said he is ready to call it quits. Briggs, 34, is a free agent, but he has decided to join CSN Chicago full time as an analyst for Bears games.
"I haven't filed my (retirement) papers yet, but I'm ready to get behind the camera," Briggs said Wednesday during an appearance on a Cubs broadcast. "Now if somebody called me and said, 'Hey Lance, we'd like you to come play football,' I'm going to say I'm happily retired. If they say, 'Hey Lance, we're going to offer you this,' I'm going to say, 'There's a good chance you've got a new football player.'
"I'm really happy with my career and with the way it's gone," Briggs said. "I'm happy I can walk away healthy."
03/05/15 - LB Lance Briggs, unrestricted FA update, returning to the team would defy logic. He did little to endear himself to the organization last year, and with two straight season-ending injuries, and at age 34 with a rebuilding franchise switching defensive schemes, there is absolutely no reason to expect he'll be brought back.
11/28/14 - LB Lance Briggs was placed on season-ending injured reserve Friday (Nov. 28).
Briggs suffered a groin injury last Sunday in the Bears' win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and did not play in Chicago's loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday in Detroit.
The seven-time Pro Bowler had 63 tackles, 2 1/2 tackles for loss and one interception this season. He also missed three games earlier in the season with a rib injury.
The 34-year-old Briggs' 170 starts for the Bears are the fifth highest total in franchise history, trailing Walter Payton (184), Olin Kreutz (183), Brian Urlacher (180) and Mike Singletary (172). In 173 career games, Briggs has 1,564 tackles, 95.5 TFLs, 16 interceptions, 15 sacks, 19 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and six defensive touchdowns.
Briggs led the team in tackles in 2004, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012. He is scheduled to become a free agent during the offseason.
11/25/14 - LB Lance Briggs is day to day with a groin injury and would not have practiced Tuesday if the Bears had practiced. It's not expected to be a season-ending injury, but is likely to keep him out of Thursday's game.
11/19/14 - LB Lance Briggs was given Wednesday off practice to rest, but is not injured. It was more of a veteran's day off. The Bears also let RB Matt Forte and DT Jeremiah Ratliff off from Wednesday's practice for the same reason.
