 Draft Scout Pierre Walters News
04/10/09 - The San Diego Chargers. The Green Bay Packers. The Indianapolis Colts. These are a few teams that are taking a look at former Eastern defensive end Pierre Walters. Walters finished a meeting with the Chargers Wednesday in San Diego. He is back in Illinois to perform workouts with the Packers today at Westchester's St. Joseph High School. He will conduct workouts with the Colts Tuesday at O'Brien Stadium. "I had a great time (in San Diego)," Walters said. "It was really cool. It was an honor to sit down with coaches." Walters received a physical, filled out a lot of paperwork on health history and took many X-rays. "The fun didn't start until after that," Walters said. He met defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, head coach Norv Turner, linebackers coach John Pagano and a bunch of other assistants and front office staff. Walters had a meeting with Pagano and other assistants. They broke down what was going to happen if he was drafted and how Walters fits into their system. "He went through the depth charts," Walters said. "They're really interested. They like how I come out of a two-point stance." Walters could fit into the weak outside linebacker position. They watched the Illinois State game and Texas vs. the Nation practice. Walters was also quizzed on different schemes. "I nailed all of it," Walters said. "I'm pretty football smart." Walters said if San Diego didn't draft him on April 25 or April 26, the Chargers could pick him as a free agent. "If I were to be picked up, I would be sitting in a very nice position to be on the team," Walters said. - Kevin Murphy, Daily Eastern News
03/31/09 - Former Eastern defensive end Pierre Walters is headed to San Diego. Walters is going to have an in-depth physical exam and then have a "meet-and-greet" with the Chargers on April 8. He got a call from his agent on Wednesday and he will meet with the front-office personnel and will meet with a position coach. "It's awesome," Walters said. "It's not going to hit me until I touch down in California. It makes me feel special that they're interested." Walters pulled his hamstring on March 12 at Northwestern's Pro Day, but that injury has healed quickly. "I was a little bit down about my hamstring," Walters said. "I've been running around doing some drills. It's not a huge concern. (The invite) tells me that there are a lot of scouts out there that are men of their words." - Daily Eastern News
03/13/09 - Northwestern Pro day: Former Eastern linebacker Pierre Walters was practically across the finish line. But Walters pulled his left hamstring during the 40-yard dash at Northwestern's Pro Day Thursday in Evanston. "I'm just hoping I didn't slow at the end," Walter said. "It just popped. It is the same one I pulled sophomore year in spring football." Walter said he would not be able to start running until the middle of April. "The scouts told me to keep my head up," Walters said. He said having teammates Jeff Sobol and Ke'Andre Sams at Northwestern helped with moral support and with people to talk to on the way back to Charleston. While Eastern's Pro Day is at 11 a.m. today in Lantz Fieldhouse or O'Brien Stadium, Walters went to Northwestern because Purdue, Ohio State and Michigan are having Pro Day today. Walters only not able to participate in the cone drills. But he was able to do the bench press, the vertical jump and the broad jump and ran the first 40-yard dash. Walters' workout...Bench press: 29 reps...Vertical jump: 32 inches...Broad jump: 10 feet, 6 1/2 inches. - Kevin Murphy, Daily Eastern News
02/24/09 - Eastern linebackers coach Forrest Jackson has announced the Pro Days as Eastern football players prepare for their future. Junior Pro Day will be at 11 a.m. on March 6 in Lantz Fieldhouse or O'Brien Stadium, depending on weather. Eastern's normal Pro Day will be at 11 a.m. on March 13 in Lantz Fieldhouse or O'Brien Stadium. Former Eastern defensive end Pierre Walters said he would attend Illinois' Pro Day, which is on March 18. "I'm going to use the Pro Day here at Eastern as a tool gauge as what to expect." Walters said. "It is nerve wracking. Trust me, I think about it everyday. I just stay within myself. I'm not too worried." Walters said within the last two weeks the San Francisco 49ers, the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns all have been in contact with his agent. He is training at Eastern and living in Charleston after spending a lot of time in New Jersey. "I'm just trying to stay humble, and I haven't made it yet," Walters said. - Kevin Murphy, Daily Eastern News
02/02/09 - Top 15 players NOT invited to the NFL Combine: DE Pierre Walters (Eastern Illinois, 6-4/269/4.78): It's hard to imagine a player with Walters' upside and versatility going undrafted. He plays on either side of the line and is still learning how to use his hands on pass rush moves and to shed. - Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com
