Draft Scout *Vince Wilfork News
09/22/14 - NT Vince Wilfork sealed New England's win over the Raiders with an interception of a Derek Carr pass that bounced off the chest of Oakland WR Denarius Moore. Wilfork made the play at the New England 11, just after an apparent touchdown by the visitors was called back for holding.
Wilfork held on to the deflected ball and New England held on for the stunningly difficult victory in the home opener. It was the third career interception for the Pro Bowl defensive lineman, who is more athletic than his position and build might indicate. He's also now one of six different Patriots tied for the team lead with one interception.
"Wilfork island?," New England safety Devin McCourty joked. "He kind of called that he would get another one this year. Hopefully we'll slow him down and pick up our play. We don't want him at the top of the leader board. He could have worked on his run after the catch but I think he is so smart and he knows situational football that he just got down and let the offense come on and take a couple of knees."
"It always feels good to get an interception," Wilfork said, crediting the entire defense for the effort on the game-clinching play.
09/21/14 - DT Vince Wilfork came down with the game-clinching deflected interception in the final minute to seal Sunday's win. It was the third pick of the big guy's career, two of them coming against Oakland. His other two INTs came in 2011. "Luckily I just came up with the play," he said. "That was a great defensive play (by the unit)."
