Post-Draft Outlook:BEST PICK: UConn CB Darius Butler might be a steal as the 41st overall pick. He established himself as the top cornerback in the Big East Conference and also served a dual-role on special teams, which could keep him in the mix when final cuts are made in July. Butler finished with the 10th most return yards in school history and also displayed a nose for the end zone, becoming the first player in conference history to record a touchdown on a kick return, an interception return, a reception and a rushing play. A closer look at the Patriots' picks: 2/41 -- Darius Butler, CB, 5-10, 183, Connecticut...Butler isn't the tallest corner in the world at 5-10, but his ability to perform on special teams may help the Patriots absorb the loss of Ellis Hobbs, who they traded to the Eagles in exchange for two fifth-round picks. The Patriots had back-to-back picks here in the second round and used them to sew up the front and back lines on defense. Butler is a ballhawk with exceptional speed and could be perfect in a slot defender role against elusive receivers underneath. He needs to play a role in the kick-return game to earn his playing time. - by The Sports Xchange

09/19/16 - CB Darius Butler injured his hamstring and will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Butler suffered the injury on an interception return. Butler had open field in front of him after intercepting a pass in the flat by Broncos QB Trevor Siemian, but managed only a handful of strides before falling to the ground and grabbing his right hamstring. The team ruled him out for the rest of the game.
"I've never seen anything like it," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. "I was thinking probably the same thing that was going through everybody else's head at the time: It's a Pick 6 and nobody is going to catch him. Then, he goes down like he was shot. It was his hamstring. He went in and didn't return. It was unfortunate."
"It's sad but I guess that's where we are right now," said Butler. "I hope we break this injury curse or whatever it is. You've got to break it, get healthy and stay healthy."
09/19/16 - CB Darius Butler (hamstring) continues to have tough luck. Butler had an interception in the preseason and wound up suffering an ankle injury on the play. After missing the Detroit game with the ankle injury, he returned to play against Denver where he picked off a pass and suffered a hamstring issue on the return. Instead of possibly scoring a touchdown, Butler pulled up at midfield with the injury. He is listed as having a Grade 1 strain and could be week-to-week.
09/18/16 - CB Darius Butler immediately clutched his right hamstring after intercepting Denver's Trevor Siemian in the flat on Sunday. Butler, who had plenty of open field in front of him, was ruled out for the rest of the game by the team.
09/16/16 - CB Darius Butler (ankle) practiced Friday after missing the season opener.
