Draft Scout Snapshot: 2008: 2008 All-Conference USA First Team in 2008...Just two years removed from major back surgery and five years removed from moving to this country, Vollmer staked himself as one of the top linemen in the Conference USA and has started the last 25 games at tackle for the Cougars. The Cougars' offense is No. 1 in the nation with 575.1 yards per game, second in passing at 414.1 ypg and eighth in scoring at 41.2 points per game...2007: All-Conference USA Honorable Mention. Member of offensive line that compiled more than 500.0 yards of total offense and more than 34.0 points per game... Started all 13 games at left tackle... One of 12 players to start all 13 games... Cougars recorded at least 400 yards of total offense in 11 games and at least 500 yards in seven games...2006: Offensive lineman who was forced to miss the entire season with a back injury...2005: Appeared in eight games as a reserve... played both tackle and tight end... was on special teams as well...2004: Redshirted the season... born in Duesseldorf, Germany.

Post-Draft Outlook:
A closer look at the Patriots' picks: 2/58 -- Sebastian Vollmer, OT, 6-7, 312, Houston...With their fourth second-round pick, the Patriots shored up the trenches by drafting a left tackle with the versatility to play tight end. Vollmer didn't start playing football until he was 14. When he did he helped his German prep school team win two titles. His versatility as a tight end makes him a candidate for a role in the red zone, where the Patriots often use a little trickery to get on the scoreboard. He has long arms, so he's good in pass protection, but, at the end of the day, is still a work in progress seeing as though he's only been in the United States for less than a decade. - by The Sports Xchange
