 Draft Scout Mitch King News
09/23/09 - DT Mitch King was placed on injured reserve from the Titans' practice squad to make room for backup punter A.J. Trapasso.
08/16/09 - DT Mitch King, an undrafted free agent, might have an uphill climb for a roster spot, but there is no doubt he is fighting for one -- literally. King fought with fellow rookie Ryan Durand during one practice, getting in several uppercuts before the players were separated. King then threw his helmet at Durand, prompting safety Michael Griffin to say as he calmed King down, "Don't ever take your helmet off, boy." Asked about Griffin's advice and throwing the helmet, King replied, "I'm not afraid to get punched in the face, so it's whatever. It was distracting my view, so it's all right." One reporter chimed in and said, "That was a pretty good right you threw," to which King replied, "Thank you."
04/30/09 - DT Mitch King signed a free agent contract with the Titans.
04/27/09 - The Tennessee Titans announced that they have agreed to terms with the following undrafted free-agents: RB Rodney Ferguson - New Mexico, WR Dudley Guice - Northwestern State, CB Jeremy Haynes - McNeese State, DT Mitch King - Iowa, WR Phillip Morris - South Carolina State, QB Alex Mortensen - Arkansas, G Ryan Schmidt - South Florida, P A.J. Trapasso - Ohio State
03/26/09 - Iowa held its Pro Day Monday in preparation for the NFL draft. Ferentz said King, a Burlington native who is projected as a middle-round pick in the draft, is the type of player who can be a good fit with the right defense. Ferentz compared him to Jonathan Babineaux, who is with the Atlanta Falcons. "When Jonathan came up, there was a certain niche for him," Ferentz said. "For about two-thirds or three-quarters of the teams, he didn't fit. But he found a great home in Atlanta. "I think Mitch is a similar player. He's never going to be a 320-pound guy, but he's going to be an awfully good football player. People have acknowledged that. I think for certain teams, that will be attractive. He will have to find the right niche." Ferentz said scouts wanted to see if King could catch passes playing as a fullback. Asked how he did, Ferentz said with a chuckle, "OK. I think they caught him off-guard. You can read between the lines on that one. You probably won't see him at fullback next season, I can tell you that." - John Bohnenkamp, Burlington Hawk Eye
