Draft Scout Maurice Crum, Jr. News
03/30/09 - The Bears flew Maurice Crum Jr., the Notre Dame linebacker, in for a pre-draft visit at Halas Hall today. The team has been doing its homework on some linebackers that project as a late-round picks or priority free agents. Crum, 6-foot, 235 pounds, might project as an inside linebacker. He ran the 40 in 4.85 seconds at his pro day in South Bend, Ind. Some feel his size and stats don't tell the entire story. He was a team MVP last season and a captain. - Brad Biggs, Chicago Sun-Times
03/19/09 - Notre Dame Pro day: LB Maurice Crum Jr. (5-11 5/8, 235 pounds) ran 4.85 twice in the 40, had a 28 1/2-inch vertical, an 8-foot, 9-inch broad jump, a 7.27 three-cone drill and did 18 bench press lifts. - Gil Brandt. NFL.com
02/13/09 - PRO POTENTIAL: LB Maurice Crum Jr. -- A solid, consistent player, although his stats won't wow the scouts. Neither will his height (6-foot) or, likely, his 40-time in workouts. But it says something good about Crum's work ethic and his leadership that he was a team captain and voted as the team's MVP in 2008. Some NFL team likely will take Crum late in the draft.
12/24/08 - Crum's legacy at Notre Dame is an interesting one, not easily classified. Though he appeared on several "watch lists" this season for postseason national awards, he's never been a serious All-America contender. He has a 100-tackle season in his career, that coming when he was a sophomore in 2006 essentially holding together a linebacker corps so thin that running back Travis Thomas had to make a year-long cameo at the position. But at the same time, he's not a prodigious playmaker, though he has been a productive one for four years. But Crum isn't a player defined by numbers. Not his tackles, though he's one of only nine players in Irish history to eclipse the 300 mark. Not by his 40 time, which will probably keep him from getting NFL scouts' hearts racing. Not by his 6-foot size, bound to be another mark against him. Crum's Notre Dame legacy, instead, will likely be defined by accomplishments only peripherally related to his play on the field. He is a two-time team captain, just the 17th player in Notre Dame's history to hold the honor twice. This year, he was named the team's MVP, likely for his leadership as much as his productivity (Crum's 63 tackles are the fewest for him since that 2005 sophomore year). "Maurice Crum to me is very similar to (former ND quarterback) Brady Quinn," Weis said. "There's always a player the team looks to as the heart and soul of the football team, and that's what Mo has been. He's been the heart and soul. "There are three captains on the team, but there's really only one heart and he's been it. He's a young man that I will admire and respect for the rest of his life." - Jeff Carroll, South Bend Tribune
12/24/08 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB Maurice Crum Jr. -- The senior is a veteran and solid presence who was chosen the team's MVP after the regular season. He has 63 tackles this season, as well as two forced fumbles. He enters the bowl game ranked eighth in school history with 303 career tackles.
