2008: All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection by The NFL Draft Report...Started 12 of 13 games, as he was suspended for the first half of the season opener due to a violation of team rules...Ranked third on the team with 87 tackles (59 solos) that included 2.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage...Recovered two fumbles and gained 37 yards on three interceptions...Also deflected six passes...Helped the team ranked tied for 12th in the nation in pass defense, as the Demon Deacons allowed just 172.54 aerial yards per game...Made nine third-down stops on 47 running plays and 16 more vs. the pass...On 58 passes thrown into his area, 37 were caught (64.79%) for 364 yards (9.83 yards per pass completion/6.28 yards per attempt) and one touchdown...2007: 13 GP; 13 GS; 66 Sol-105 TT, 4.5 TFL, 1 INT, 14 PBU, 2 FR; Wake Forest's leading tackler in 2007 with 105 tackles (66 solo, 39 assists) . . . Earned honorable mention All-ACC . . . Second in the conference in passes defended with 15 . . . Ranked 12th in the ACC in tackles per game at 8.1 . . . Post-Draft Outlook:
COULD SURPRISE: Safety Chip Vaughn was rated by the Saints as the third-best strong safety in the draft and was projected as a second- or third-round pick. However, the Saints plan to try him at free safety, where he's likely to be groomed as a replacement for veteran Darren Sharper in a year or two -- if not sooner. A closer look at the Saints' picks: Round 4/116 -- Chip Vaughn, FS, 6-2, 221, Wake Forest...He could be the answer to a need at free safety, where the Saints tried Josh Bullocks and Kevin Kaesviharn the past two seasons. Vaughn was rated highly as a strong safety, but his 4.42-second speed in the 40-yard dash and support of the run make him a free safety prospect. - by The Sports Xchange
