Draft Scout Nick Collins News
04/25/12 - FS Nick Collins was released by the Packers on Wednesday.
Collins sustained a career-threatening neck injury in the Packers' Sept. 18 win at Carolina last season.
"From the beginning of this process, we have taken our time and sought numerous medical opinions while maintaining consistent dialogue with Nick," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said in the statement. "In the end, we were not comfortable clearing him to play again. As with all of our players, Nick is a member of our family and we thought of him that way as we came to this conclusion.
"Nick is a part of our core, and this is a very difficult day for all Packers. Making this kind of decision is never easy, especially when it involves someone like Nick Collins. He has meant so much to the community, his teammates and the organization. He is a good man and will always be part of the Packers family."
04/20/12 - FS Nick Collins still is in limbo regarding his outlook for playing football again after suffering a severe neck injury last September. Collins reportedly is seeking another medical opinion on the surgically repaired neck. A long-anticipated meeting between Collins, his representatives and Packers officials, at which time a decision should be made on his playing future, isn't expected to happen until after the April 26-28 draft.
04/18/12 - S Nick Collins' future remains uncertain and he's delayed a meeting with the Packers until after the draft. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Collins wouldn't be allowed back on the field if Collins was McCarthy's son. Collins was scheduled to meet with the team before the draft but the meeting has been delayed to grant Collins more time to meet with doctors.
Collins' agent, Alan Herman, told the Green Bay Press Gazette the meeting won't be held until Collins has gathered everything necessary to make an informed decision on whether or not he should play football again.
Collins was injured Week 2 of the 2011 season and required single-fusion surgery.
"All the opinions aren't in, and I think he's getting another opinion," Herman said.
03/29/12 - FS Nick Collins reportedly was in New York on March 28 to have his surgically repaired neck re-examined by a spinal surgeon. A decision is expected soon to follow on whether the Pro Bowl player will be allowed to resume his playing career after suffering a herniated disc in Week 2 last season.
03/22/12 - FS Nick Collins reportedly will have his surgically repaired neck re-examined by doctors by the end of the month, at which time the three-time Pro Bowl player is expected to get a definitive answer on whether he will be able to resume playing. Collins suffered the career-threatening herniated disc in Week 2 last season.
