 Draft Scout Joel Dreessen News
07/22/14 - TE Joel Dreessen was released by the Denver Broncos after being designated as having failed a physical. Dreessen was signed as a free agent two years ago with the goal of providing quarterback Peyton Manning with a veteran pass-catching tight end threat. He caught a career-high 41 passess for 356 yards and five touchdowns in 2012, but his production dipped to just seven catches last year as he struggled to regain full strength following two offseason knee surgeries and with Julius Thomas emerging as one of the top young tight ends in the league. Dreessen spent five seasons with the Houston Texans following his rookie year with the New York Jets, who selected him in the sixth round in 2005 out of Colorado State.
07/22/14 - TE Joel Dreessen had his contract terminated by the Broncos Tuesday with the designation failed physical (knee). The ninth-year veteran appeared in 29 regular-season games (15 starts) with the Broncos during the last two seasons and totaled 48 receptions for 403 yards (8.4 average) with six touchdowns. He posted six catches for 46 yards in one postseason start for the team.
12/26/13 - -- TE Joel Dreessen did not practice Wednesday, but returned to full work Thursday. Dreessen has been held out of Wednesday work from time to time this season to rest his knee, which underwent two surgeries this summer.
12/04/13 - TE Joel Dreessen did not practice Wednesday, but like Peyton Manning, he has been held out of Wednesday practices frequently this season. Dreessen had two knee surgeries this summer, leading to the Broncos' mid-week caution.
11/15/13 - TE Joel Dreessen returned to full practice Friday and is listed as probable. Dreessen has had two knee surgeries in the last six months.
