Draft Scout Antrel Rolle News
03/12/15 - S Antrel Rolle left the Giants for the Bears Wednesday (March 11) when he agreed to terms on a three-year contract. Rolle joins a defense shifting to a 3-4 after a five-win season in which the defense gave up the most points in franchise history.
Rolle spent the past five seasons with the New York Giants and was first or second in tackles every year. He was drafted in the first round by the Arizona Cardinals.
03/05/15 - S Antrel Rolle, unrestricted FA update, had a down year in 2014, but he is still very much a top quality starting safety in what is an overall weak market for safeties. Re-signing him will prove to be difficult.
12/17/14 - S Antrel Rolle, who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, knows that he hasn't been playing his best ball. However, the Giants' defensive captain is hoping that the fact that he brings it every week is something that will be taken into consideration by whoever offers him his next contract.
"No, this is not my best season," he admitted. "But am I playing ball? I'm playing ball."
Rolle is correct when he says it hasn't been his best season.
Last week in particular, Rolle had one of his worst games of the season, a game in which he was involved in the Redskins' longest pass play of the game, a 61-yard completion to receiver Andre Roberts, or when quarterback Robert Griffin III stiff-armed him out of the way for a large gain.
"The other day he had some occasions where he didn't play that well, but it's not because he doesn't try hard and he's not into it," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "He works off the field as hard as anybody."
Rolle, who turned 32 on Dec. 16, has seen his tackle total drop from 98 last season to 74 this year. In addition, he has 14 missed tackles this season, up from the 11 he had all of last year, according to Pro Football Focus, a web site for advanced analytics.
He has also seen his coverage numbers swing toward the negative, allowing two touchdowns this season instead of one, and having just three interceptions, half of what he had last year.
Despite the downward trend in his production, Rolle still believes that he has maybe three or four more years left, and, if he has his druthers, he'd like to spend them with the Giants and retire as a member of the team.
"It'd be great to stay here with these guys. Next year we have a great chance," he said. "We have a great thing going."
Of course, it remains to be seen if the Giants feel the same way about him. Rolle said that there have been no discussions yet with the team and his agent about a new deal. Rolle also declined to say if he would ac
12/10/14 - S Antrel Rolle remains the lone Giants representative in the Pro Bowl fan ballot. As of earlier this week, Rolle, listed as a strong safety, was in eighth place with 57,371 votes.
11/27/14 - S Antrel Rolle returned to practice on Thursday. He had been excused from Wednesday's practice to attend to a personal matter.
