 Draft Scout Stanford Routt News
12/06/12 - CB Stanford Routt, who played at the University of Houston, signed with the Texans, who needed help for their secondary with CB Brice McCain undergoing surgery to repair a fractured foot. Routt, 29, was waived by Kansas City in November. "I had a strong feeling that something would definitely come out of it," Routt said about his workout for the coaches. "This is great. Me being from the state of Texas (Austin), going to school at the University of Houston right here in the city -- it's definitely a nice fit." Routt, who ran a 4.27 40 at the 2005 combine and was drafted in the second round by Oakland, was headed to Pittsburgh for a workout when the Texans signed him to a one-year deal.
11/09/12 - Veteran cornerback Stanford Routt reportedly is meeting with the Detroit Lions on Friday after being waived this week by Kansas City. Injuries have hit the Lions' secondary and Routt is available to possibly add depth. An NFL source confirmed the meeting, according to The Sideline View. Routt, 29, was released by Oakland in February and then signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Chiefs. The 2005 second-round draft pick from the University of Houston has 60 career starts in the NFL.
11/05/12 - CB Stanford Routt was released by the Chiefs on Monday. Head coach Romeo Crennel was not specific in the reasons for the move other than saying the "relationship wasn't progressing as quickly and fast as I wanted it to." Routt missed the last game with a hamstring injury.
10/29/12 - CB Stanford Routt had his second interception of the season against Oakland, giving him 12 for his career. Routt had four tackles and knocked down three other passes. He also missed a tackle that allowed Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey to complete a 32-yard scoring play.
08/12/12 - CB Stanford Routt led the NFL in penalties last season with 17 called against him while playing with Oakland. He vowed that this year would be different as he mans the right cornerback spot with the Chiefs. But in his first game wearing red, Routt saw the yellow hanky thrown on him for pass interference while trying to cover Arizona WR Larry Fitzgerald.
