Draft Scout Antoine Bethea News
10/01/14 - S Antoine Bethea was selected as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his contribution to the 49ers' win Sunday over the Philadelphia Eagles. Playing in his 100th consecutive game, Bethea recorded 12 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble in the win.
09/29/14 - S Antoine Bethea was the leading tackler (10) in a 49ers defensive effort Sunday that allowed the Philadelphia Eagles just 22 rushing yards, the ninth-fewest San Francisco has allowed in a game in franchise history.
One of those tackles probably saved the game for the 49ers. It came on Eagles running back LeSean McCoy inside the San Francisco 2-yard line with just over 2:00 to play, just when it appeared Philadelphia was going to take the lead. Bethea, who was playing in his 100th consecutive game, the longest active streak among safeties in the NFL, also had his 15th career interception and a forced fumble in the game.
09/28/14 - SS Antoine Bethea had his first forced fumble and first interception in his debut season for the 49ers on Sunday against Philadelphia. Bethea started his 100th consecutive game, the longest active streak by a safety in the NFL.
08/26/14 - S Antoine Bethea was back practicing with the team in a blue "no-contact" jersey after sustaining a concussion in the second preseason game against the Broncos. He is likely to return to action for the season opener in Dallas.
08/20/14 - SS Antoine Bethea left Sunday's game early after sustaining an apparent concussion. Harbaugh confirmed Tuesday Bethea is indeed going through the NFL's mandated concussion protocols.
"It's based on how they respond with their symptoms," said Harbaugh. "When they're asymptomatic, then they're progressed to running. And then another day goes by, or two, until they're not symptomatic and show they're not symptomatic from running and exerting themselves. Then it progresses to practice without contact. Again, if they're asymptomatic, then it progresses to contact, again. See what the symptoms there are, if any. If not, then they're progressed back into playing."
It appears unlikely Bethea will play again this preseason. He was at practice in street clothes observing positional drills Tuesday.
