Draft Scout Danny Woodhead News
09/24/14 - RB Danny Woodhead was placed on injured reserve after breaking his leg.
09/22/14 - RB Danny Woodhead was placed on season-ending injury reserve after he suffered a broken leg in Sunday's game, head coach Mike McCoy announced Monday. Woodhead, who fractured his fibula, is as valuable as a receiver coming out of the backfield as he is as a ball-carrier. He had 15 carries this season for 38 yards and had five receptions for 34 yards. He had 76 catches for the Chargers a year ago.
09/21/14 - RB Danny Woodhead suffered what might be a season-ending, broken fibula Sunday as San Diego's running back corps got a little thinner. Woodhead, a seventh-year veteran from Chadron State, had gotten the starting nod in place of Ryan Mathews, who will be sidelined for an extended period with a strained MCL. But Woodhead's day was through after just one carry. With 11:37 remaining in the first quarter, he was carted off the field and did not return.
09/09/14 - RB Danny Woodhead had six carries for 5 yards and was targeted as a receiver just once, catching that pass for 6 yards. Rivers, though, said Woodhead is a multifaceted weapon the Chargers must rely on throughout the year, adding, "He's just a real dynamic guy for us. He's not just a third-down back guy. He's not just a receiving running back for us. He's an all-around back. He gave us a huge boost last year, and we look forward to him having the same kind of year this year."
07/22/14 - RB Danny Woodhead signed a two-year contract extension with the Chargers Tuesday (July 22). Woodhead originally signed a two-year contract when he joined the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent from New England in March 2013. His new contract runs through the 2016 season.
"Danny is an integral part of our offense," said general manager Tom Telesco. "His work ethic and on-field production were key elements last year. We look forward to having him be a part of the Chargers organization into the future."
The popular jack-of-all-trades had a career year in 2013. A talented receiver out of the backfield, Woodhead recorded new career highs of 76 catches (second on the team), 605 yards and six touchdowns. He ranked first among all NFL running backs in touchdown catches and ranked second in receptions and receiving yards. Woodhead also posted 429 rushing yards for a total of 1,034 yards from scrimmage, as well as two rushing touchdowns for a total of eight. Adding in his 262 kickoff return yards, he set another career-high with 1,296 all-purpose yards.
