Draft Scout Louis Murphy News
12/26/14 - WR Louis Murphy signed a three-year contract extension with the Buccaneers Friday (Dec. 26). The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Murphy played in 11 games this season, with three starts, catching 31 passes for 380 yards and two touchdowns. In his six-year career, Murphy has played in 82 games, with 27 starts, totaling 152 receptions for 2,124 yards and 10 touchdowns, as well as 14 rushes for 146 yards and one touchdown. Murphy, 27, had been scheduled to become a free agent after the season. He was placed on injured reserve last week with an ankle injury.
"You want to reward players that take the long way and earn it the right way," coach Lovie Smith said Friday. "We like him. When he was healthy and ready to go as our third receiver, he did some positive things as our third receiver. He's somebody that we want to keep building with."
Murphy said he wanted to stay with the Bucs instead of testing free agency despite the team's 2-13 record.
"I believe in this team," Murphy said. "I believe in Coach Lovie. I believe in the organization. I believe in all the guys that are in that locker room regardless of what the record says. I believe that we're going to be contenders in the future, and I want to be a part of it. I want to see it turn around."
12/16/14 - WR Louis Murphy (ankle) was placed on reserve/injured by the Buccaneers Tuesday (Dec. 16).
11/23/14 - WR Louis Murphy had 113 yards on six catches Sunday, nearly half his season's previous total of 242 yards receiving.
10/12/14 - WR Louis Murphy caught his second touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter Sunday in the Bucs' 48-17 loss to the Ravens at Raymond James Stadium, a 3-yard reception from QB Mike Glennon. Murphy caught a touchdown pass in a second consecutive game. He set a career high with seven receptions Sunday, leading all receivers in the game. He finished with a team-high 72 yards. The Bucs outscored the Ravens 17-10 in the second half, but it didn't mean much in a blowout loss. "I just think we went out and just said we're going to make plays. We're just going to try and come out and just air it out. I think that's what we did," Murphy said. "We still lost. We're not into moral victories, but you have to look toward something in this tough loss."
09/29/14 - WR Louis Murphy, who was re-signed by the team early last week, led the Bucs with six catches for 99 yards.
