04/28/09 - On Monday, the Broncos announced the addition of 15 undrafted free agents. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Swift, at 6-foot-1, 2-3, has the size to be an NFL receiver. He averaging 34 catches, 522 yards and four touchdowns in his first three seasons at Nebraska before upping his game in 2008. He led the Cornhuskers with 69 catches for 941 yards and 10 touchdowns to go along with 23 punt returns for 296 yards and a touchdown. His play earned him honorable mention All-Big 12 honors. As his name would hint, Swift has deceptive speed -- he tied for sixth among receivers at the Combine in the three-cone drill. Carolina offensive line coach Dave Magazu and Miami offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo were in attendance. 02/08/09 - PRO POTENTIAL: WR Nate Swift might have a chance as a late-round pick. If that happens, he'll be the first Nebraska wide receiver to be selected in the NFL draft since Bobby Newcombe in 2001 (sixth round, Arizona). Swift caught 63 passes for 941 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior.
01/28/09 - Since 1984, when Irving Fryar was a first-round pick of the New England Patriots, only seven Nebraska receivers have been selected in the NFL Draft. Nate Swift hopes to make it eight. His chances were significantly bolstered Monday when he received an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine next month in Indianapolis. According to NFL.com draft analyst Gil Brandt, 64 percent of the players invited to the combine since 1993 ended up being drafted. Playing in both the slot and split wide, Swift had 63 receptions for 941 yards and 10 TDs this past season. At the combine, everybody looks at 40-yard dash times. "Hopefully I get somewhere in the 4.5s -- a low 4.5 would be a great day for me," said Swift, who hasn't been timed in the 40 for 1 1/2 years. - My Journal Star
