Post-Draft Outlook: A closer look at the Packers' picks: Round 1/26 -- Clay Matthews, LB, 6-3, 245, Southern California...As tickled as Ted Thompson was to have Raji slide to the Packers early in Round 1, the general manager eagerly wanted Matthews to fill another missing piece in the new defensive scheme. Hence, Thompson mortgaged the rest of Green Bay's first half of the draft -- a second-round pick (No. 41) and two third-round choices (Nos. 73 and 83) -- to go up to get the all-around playmaker that is Matthews. More than having strong NFL bloodlines, Matthews is a ready-made starter at right outside linebacker with his combination of tenacious run defense, unbridled pass rush off the edge and improving coverage skills. - by The Sports Xchange

11/11/15 - LB Clay Matthews (ankle/knee) remains on the injury report this week. The defensive standout practiced on a limited basis Wednesday but should be OK to play Sunday's game against the Lions. He played through his leg injury in the loss at Carolina last Sunday.
11/05/15 - LB Clay Matthews (ankle/knee) said Thursday he's "making progress" from what he said was initially a scary injury he sustained in the second half of the loss at the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. Matthews has practiced on a limited basis the last two days and feels he will be ready to play Sunday at the unbeaten Carolina Panthers. "Dealing with a little swelling," Matthews said of the left leg that was rolled up on by teammate Damarious Randall. Matthews missed only a few plays before returning for the rest of the game. "I'm happy the progress was made over these past few days, so hopefully come Sunday it shouldn't be too much of an issue," he said.

11/03/15 - LB Clay Matthews (ankle) is recovering from the injury to his lower left leg that knocked him out of the 29-10 loss at the Denver Broncos on Sunday night for a few plays. Matthews sustained the injury in the third quarter, when the ankle was inadvertently rolled up on by Damarious Randall as the rookie cornerback made an open-field tackle. Matthews returned for Denver's next possession and played the rest of the way. "The good thing is from the doctors on the sideline assessment, thankfully it wasn't too serious," Matthews said after the game. "We'll monitor it day by day and see how it is."
