 Draft Scout Antonio Dixon News
08/23/09 - DL Antonio Dixon, a rookie free agent was in on two more stops against Pittsburgh after he had five tackles in the opener against Baltimore. He still seems destined for the practice squad, at best with Albert Haynesworth, longtime starter Cornelius Griffin, former starters Kedric Golston and Anthony Montgomery and swingman Lorenzo Alexander ahead of him on the depth chart and with veteran ends Phillip Daniels and Renaldo Wynn capable of moving inside. Dixon's teammates congratulated him after the Baltimore game as did coach Jim Zorn. To a point. The 6-3, 322-pound Dixon, who has struggled with his conditioning, barely made it through his first series as the Ravens marched 89 yards in 13 plays and 5:22 before settling for a field goal that he had to try to block. "Antonio did a real nice job, but ... he could not have played a full game," Zorn said. "He was totally exhausted. (After the) long drive, he came off, but [he and] the field goal team had to go back on and you should have seen the look on his face." Dixon ran after practice with the quarterbacks last week, drawing praise from the coach for his effort to remedy the problem. "You love to see guys that are coachable and when you make a correction ... very soon after that, the guy gets it," Zorn said.
04/27/09 - The Redskins added to their rookie crop on Monday, agreeing to terms with 13 undrafted free agents on contracts. Antonio Dixon was not a full-time starter at Miami. Even though he is 6-2 and 326 pounds, scouts say he has good mobility for a defensive tackle. He logged 45 tackles and 2.5 sacks in four years with the Hurricanes. - Gary Fitzgerald, Redskins.com
02/11/09 - PRO POTENTIAL: DT Antonio Dixon was only a part-time starter but saw significant time in Miami's defensive rotation up front. He is rated a sixth- or seventh-round pick at best.
08/27/08 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: DT Antonio Dixon - A senior, Dixon is one of the more underrated players on the defensive side of the ball. He had four starts last year in fighting off injuries.
08/07/08 - Miami defensive tackle Antonio Dixon stayed at a hospital overnight after being taken to a hospital by ambulance after apparently suffering effects from the strong heat and humidity during Wednesday's practice. Miami coach Randy Shannon had originally said Dixon was suffering from dehydration, but the team later said his ailment was unclear. Dixon, a 6-foot-3, 322-pound senior and projected starter, was expected to leave the hospital Thursday afternoon after tests were completed. "Dixon is fine," coach Randy Shannon said. "It is one of those situations where it is hot down here at Miami and we are always going to have precautions with everything we do. We put the safety of the kid first and everything else second." Shannon and some of the players went to the hospital to visit Dixon. They said he joked with them and talked about eating fried chicken. Shannon said Dixon "will probably be back Thursday afternoon" to participate in the first two-a-day. - AP Sports/The Florida Times-Union
