 Draft Scout News
08/19/10 - RB Glen Coffee said he retired because he might have a pastoral calling. The 23-year-old told the Dan Patrick Show that his "heart wasn't in the right place."
08/15/10 - RB Glen Coffee said he's considered leaving football for years and made a mistake by entering the draft. He said he hoped that playing professionally would reawaken his passion for the game. He found Christ while at the University of Alabama and feels he is now on a different path. He said he plans to return to Alabama to finish his undergraduate degree -- he must take two more classes -- and he plans to earn a master's as well. Coffee said he would not reconsider his decision despite the fact that the 49ers can recoup $621,000 of his $828,000 signing bonus. "I've already told Christ it's time to go," he said. "I've already rung the bell. That's not going to happen." Coffee's departure puts added pressure on sixth-round draft pick Anthony Dixon, who is now expected to take over the role of No. 2 tailback.
08/12/10 - RB Glen Coffee has said he is walking away from football. 49ers coach Mike Singletary said the announcement came as a surprise, but that he respects Coffee's decision. "I appreciate everything that he's done for the 49ers and whatever the issues are, I'm not going to go into all of the other stuff," said Singletary. "You will have to talk to Glen about that. But, I appreciate his honesty and I appreciate him not coming out here and going through the motions."
07/22/10 - RB Glen Coffee added more weight in the offseason to better complement his hard-charging style.
12/31/09 - RB Glen Coffee returned to practice this week and will likely be available to be Frank Gore's primary backup Sunday in the 49ers' season finale against the St. Louis Rams.
