Post-Draft Outlook:
COULD SURPRISE: TE Travis Beckum is far more a receiver than a blocker. As such, he might be the answer to a need since starter Kevin Boss has turned into a quality blocker and, at 6-5 and 265, is a reasonably effective receiver. The two tight ends behind him, however, leave much to be desired. Both Michael Matthews and Darcy Johnson can easily be replaced, and both might be if Beckum works out and a free agent (perhaps Lee Vickers) catches the coaches' attention. A closer look at the Giants' picks: Round 3/100 -- Travis Beckum, TE, 6-3, 243, Wisconsin...With a need for a pass-catching tight end, the Giants turned to Beckum, once a defensive end and outside linebacker. He has good hands and is tough to bring down after a catch; will run the short patterns across the middle and is looked upon as an athletic possession-type receiver who needs to hone his blocking skills. - by The Sports Xchange

 Draft Scout Travis Beckum News
09/01/10 - TE/H-back Travis Beckum (neck), who returned to practice for one day after missing a couple of weeks with his latest ailment, found himself right back on the sidelines when his neck injury flared up again. Head coach Tom Coughlin said that additional research would have to be done to determine why the second-year tight end continues to have this issue.
08/22/10 - TE Travis Beckum (hamstring) returned to practice last week after previously being able to work in just two practice sessions prior. Beckum was active for the Giants' pre-season game against Pittsburgh.
08/09/10 - TE Travis Beckum (hamstring) has returned to practice.
07/22/10 - TE Travis Beckum is looking to define his role in the offense after having limited chances last year. Beckum isn't likely to be asked to block much as the team's H-back. He has said that he has a greater understanding of the Giants' playbook; however, given the success of the receivers last season, it's not known just how many opportunities he might actually have.
05/27/10 - TE Travis Beckum, whom the team drafted in the third round last year, isn't worried about replacing Kevin Boss so much as he is about growing more into his specific role as the team's H-back. "The position I played in a college and a lot that I'm doing here is H-back because of my ability to move around, whether it's in the backfield or out wide in the Y position," Beckum said. "I think they're going to continue to do that this year." However, that doesn't mean that Beckum won't see a few snaps lined up on the line of scrimmage in which he might be asked to block. "I think I played a couple of times on the line of scrimmage, and those times I believe were screen plays," he said. "Once we're in a game, it's going to be a matter of (the coaches) moving me around to create mismatches for the defense."
