 Draft Scout News
06/20/09 - WR Jeremy Childs, an undrafted rookie free agent, was released by San Diego.
04/24/09 - Former Boise State wide receiver Jeremy Childs might have picked the wrong year to jump into the NFL Draft a year early. Childs is part of a tremendous class at wide receiver - a position so deep that the rankings on USA Today's Web site list the two-time All-WAC selection and Boise State record-setter as the 34th option. That means there's a strong chance Childs won't be drafted this weekend - a chance Childs says he hasn't given much thought. "I know I'll be drafted," he said this week. "Being a free agent, I'm not even thinking of, but if worse comes to worst, if I am, I've just got to go the hard route and do what I've got to do. I still wouldn't regret leaving Boise." Childs has talked to about 25 teams on the telephone but hasn't visited any, he said. He said eight to 12 teams are "pressing the issue." He was projected as a second-day pick by the committee that advises underclassmen who are considering entering the draft. He expects to land somewhere in the neighborhood of his close friend, former Boise State cornerback Orlando Scandrick, who was taken in the fifth round last year. - Chadd Cripe, Idaho Statesman
03/17/09 - Former Boise State wide receiver Jeremy Childs ran and caught passes for NFL scouts Tuesday at the Broncos’ pro day. Childs also addressed his reasons for leaving school after his junior season. Childs said financial considerations, particularly caring for his 4-year-old daughter, Nya, and his mother, played a large part in his decision. "I've got some personal issues with my daughter. I've got to take care of her. My mom, she doesn't really have a place to live," Childs said. Childs ran lackluster 40-yard dash times during last month’s NFL Scouting Combine. He was timed at 4.55 and 4.57 seconds during his two attempts. Childs was faster Tuesday. Childs said he was disappointed in his combine time, so switched trainers. All times are unofficial at the event, but Childs said he was clocked as fast as 4.46 seconds. "People see me as a possession receiver, which is OK. I feel that I could be both a possession receiver and a vertical threat," he said. "I came out here to prove my speed. My combine time wasn't the one I wanted. So I came out here to improve that and I did what I had to do." - Brian Murphy, The Idaho Statesman
03/17/09 - Boise State Pro day: Twelve team representatives were in attendance to watch a total of 11 prospects work out indoors on FieldTurf. The other notable prospect on hand was WR Jeremy Childs (6-0, 196 pounds). He ran a 4.49 and 4.47 in the 40, had a 4.11 short shuttle and kept the rest of his numbers from the combine. He did position drills. – Gil Brandt, NFL.com
02/16/09 - PRO POTENTIAL: WR Jeremy Childs decided to leave school a year early for the NFL Draft. He probably would have benefited from another year with the Broncos, but his solid route running and sure hands should make him a late-round pick, too. He was invited to the combine.
