Draft Scout Justin Forsett News
05/03/17 - RB Justin Forsett announced his retirement Wednesday after nine seasons in the NFL. His most productive season came in 2014 with the Ravens when he rushed for 1,266 yards (averaging 5.4 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns to earn a Pro Bowl selection. Forsett, 31, played for seven different teams throughout his career and finished with 3,890 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. He also had 210 career catches for 1,351 yards and one touchdown. His final season in 2016 was split between the Ravens, Lions and Broncos.
12/19/16 - RB Justin Forsett started at running back against the Patriots in place of Devontae Booker.
12/12/16 - Justin Forsett, picked up on Monday off the waiver wire, fumbled on his first carry and it led to a 53-yard field goal by Ryan Succop less than two minutes after DeMarco Murray's score.
12/12/16 - RB Justin Forsett's first-quarter fumble was his first lost fumble in 950 touches, a streak that dated back to 2009. He returned but was used sparingly as the Broncos ran just nine times Sunday.
12/07/16 - RB Justin Forsett didn't need much time to get up to speed during his first practice as a Bronco on Wednesday.
Wearing jersey No. 20, Forsett was able to step in as if he'd been with the team all season, having played under Kubiak in Houston and Baltimore during the 2012 and 2014 seasons. He was also with Seattle when the Seahawks utilized similar principles in their scheme.
"The terminology and everything I've been in for maybe seven out of the nine years that I have been playing in this league -- it's all familiar with me," he said. "As far as the playbook and the system, I feel at home."
The Broncos need him to be a quick study. They claimed him off waivers from the Lions on Monday after Kapri Bibbs was placed on injured reserve because of an ankle sprain, and Kubiak said he plans to use Forsett in relief of rookie Devontae Booker right away.
Booker is starting because of C.J. Anderson's torn meniscus. Anderson isn't eligible to return to the 53-man roster until Week 17.
"(Forsett) understands protections," Kubiak said. "He understands exactly what we're doing, so that's nice to walk on the field today. We really didn't have a new player in a lot of ways other than a new face."
And it's a new face looking for a final shot at redemption. The nine-year veteran has been cut by the Ravens and Lions this year, and has averaged just 3.1 yards per carry in his ninth NFL season.
