 Draft Scout News
12/28/06 - PRO PROSPECTS: LB Juwan Simpson - NFL teams don't like his offseason problems, especially the arrest for marijuana, and they also don't like how he failed to accept responsibility for his actions. He's no DeMeco Ryans, on or off the field, but still has enough ability to go in the fourth or fifth round with the right team.
10/27/06 - LOOKING GOOD: LB Juwan Simpson led the Crimson Tide with 11 tackles.
10/06/06 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB Juwan Simpson leads Alabama with 28 tackles but his missed tackles are adding up as well.
09/18/06 - ROSTER REPORT: Coach Mike Shula’s disciplinary policies will remain a topic of discussion for yet another week. Shula, who prefers to keep Alabama’s disciplinary issues "in house," admitted that seven players had been suspended at various points over the first three games for transgressions committed during the offseason. Three of those players – linebacker Juwan Simpson, cornerback Lionel Mitchell and tailback Jimmy Johns - were suspended for the Louisiana-Monroe instead of the season opener against Hawaii or the second game against Vanderbilt. As for the other suspensions, "We don't talk about the guys when they are missing games," Shula said. In all, seven players were suspended. Two of those were receiver DJ Hall, who missed the opener, and offensive tackle Kyle Tatum, who missed the second game. Shula would not reveal the other two, but they were suspended over the first two games.
09/08/06 - ACC Players to Watch: Intriguing athlete whose frame and style of play remind me a great deal of former UTEP star Thomas Howard, selected with the 38th overall pick (Oakland) in April's draft. Unlike Howard, who originally came to UTEP as a defensive back, Simpson has played linebacker his entire collegiate career. However, he has a similar high-cut, almost basketball-player type build and is at his best using his speed and quickness in pursuit or in coverage. Simpson started eight games over the course of the 2003 and 2004 season before emerging as the full-time starter (12 games) last season, registering 64 tackles, six tackles for loss and a pair of both interceptions and sacks.
