Draft Scout Josh McCown News
09/15/14 - QB Josh McCown's strong start ended with a costly turnover in Sunday's 19-17 home loss to St. Louis.
McCown completed his first eight passes for 78 yards and scored the game's first touchdown on a 5-yard run. Then, on first and goal from the 9, McCown ran into trouble. He rolled right and forced a pass toward the middle of the field for Vincent Jackson. St. Louis safety Rodney McLeod intercepted it for McCown's third interception in his first six quarters as a Buc.
"It was a bad decision again," McCown said. "I just got outside and saw Vincent. I thought he was coming underneath the guy and I tried to get him the ball coming across. Vincent said he collided with the guy and didn't get there. I've just got to throw that one away and live to play another day."
09/14/14 - QB Josh McCown put together another shaky performance in the Bucs' 19-17 loss to the Rams at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday. He was 16-for-21 for 179 yards and another ill-advised interception, a mistake he admittedly shouldn't have made after committing two similar errors in Week 1. McCown wasn't without value, however, as he ran for two touchdowns on the day. He is one of two quarterbacks in Bucs history with multiple rushing touchdowns in the same game, and it was the second time in his career he did so -- albeit nearly 10 years after his previous two-TD performance on Dec. 19, 2004. The biggest concern might be that the Bucs seem to be calling plays ultra-conservatively, so afraid of letting McCown make mistakes that they won't let him loose either.
09/07/14 - QB Josh McCown rallied late but struggled badly early in the Buccaneers' 20-14 season-opening loss to the Panthers on Sunday. McCown finished with 22 completions on 35 attempts, totaling 183 yards along with two touchdowns and two interceptions. McCown admitted that the Bucs' 17-0 hole dictated the quickened pace of the offense down the stretch, saying when the Bucs "had to spread out and start throwing it, we got a little bit of a rhythm going, and that helped us." McCown found himself on the receiving end of a rain of boos from the home crowd, and another shaky performance or two could have Bucs fans calling for backup QB Mike Glennon.
