09/06/17 - DL Michael Bennett said Las Vegas police threatened to "blow his head off" for "doing nothing more than simply being a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time." In a social media post, Bennett said the incident occurred after the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight in Las Vegas on Aug. 26, when police detained him after what sounded like gunshots in a crowded area. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said Wednesday that an internal investigation has been launched. He also confirmed that the officer at the center of the incident didn't have his body camera on. McMahill, who said both officers who dealt with Bennett were hispanic, said he had found "no evidence that race played any role in this incident." Bennett was detained for 10 minutes, according to McMahill. McMahill also said that the department is reviewing 126 videos from scene. Bennett said uniformed police pointed guns at him and one officer, with his gun drawn, warned him that he would "blow my f--- head off" if he moved, Bennett wrote. Another officer jammed a knee into Bennett's back and handcuffed him, according to Bennett's account. "It sucks that in the country that we live in now, sometimes you get profiled for the color of your skin," Bennett told reporters Wednesday. "It's a tough situation for me. Do I think every police officer is bad? No, I don't believe that. Do I believe there's some people out there that judge people on the color of their skin? I do believe that." Upon confirming his identify, Bennett said he was released from a police car with no explanation and "without any legitimate justification for the Officers' abusive conduct."
08/28/17 - DE Michael Bennett will miss the final week of the preseason as he is away from the team having a Regenokine procedure done before the start of the season.
Bennett is having the procedure to help with a knee issue. He is expected to be ready to go for the first game in Green Bay.
08/14/17 - DE Michael Bennett of the Seattle Seahawks refused to stand during the national anthem on Sunday -- a gesture he said was to raise awareness to racism and intolerance -- before his team's preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. Bennett said the violence in Charlottesville, Va., was a catalyst for his actions after white nationalists, neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan members holding a rally over the weekend clashed with counterprotesters in the streets and a car plowed into crowds, leaving a woman dead and more than 30 injured. The 31-year-old Bennett told reporters after the Seahawks' 48-17 win over the Chargers that he intends to continue to sit during the national anthem.
01/15/17 - DE Michael Bennett, who had one of three sacks against Falcons QB Matt Ryan on Saturday, didn't appreciate some of the questioning in the locker room after the loss and lashed out at a reporter with profanity and some apparent threats. CB Richard Sherman, calmly cutting off his own interview, went over to quiet Bennett and stop the confrontation.
